Occupy Wall Street and the Corp...
Been thinking about this all day. We have not seen the armed forces take sides... officially. But we are seeing Marines (and I suspect other service branches too) join this. Now if these guys are retired, as in former marines, we are talking civilians. They are free and clear to do this. But if these guys (and I suspect gals) are active duty... that is a step we have not seen since the soldier revolt in Nam (here is a reference to that one, http://www.amazon.com/Soldiers-Revolt-Resistance-During-Vietnam/dp/1931859272 )

So this is not quite yet to the level of oh Portugal where active duty NCO's have taken sides... but if we do (and we might just be on the way), that is a critical step in this. Oh and one that could go very badly for those in the armed forces if they decide to... enforce the UCMJ.... it is kind of not legal for non in the armed forces to take political sides while in uniform.

So keep an eye on this... it could turn into something rather interesting.

1. It can easily be argued, I think, that involvement with Occupy event doesn't violate the UCMJ.
Here's a link:

It depends on a number of factors, of course, and it makes for an interesting discussion.

6. I know, but I am talking of rules and regs
we are not the only army that has that little quirk by the way... it is actually quite a common thing at least in North America. THere are valid reasons for it... from an armed force perspective and good order and discipline... but this is why this is worth watching.
