Edited on Sun Oct-23-11 10:30 AM by Cyrano
Is anyone really stupid enough to believe that the racists who inhabit the GOP would actually let Herman Cain be their presidential candidate?

The MSM is going along with this charade. Cable "news" is going along with this charade. Wingnut pundits are going along with this charade.

And worst of all, Herman Cain is going along with this charade.

Would anyone who actually believes this bullshit "candidacy" please raise your hand and speak up.

1. I've been saying this from the beginning.
Cain could look, act, talk, and walk like the great saint ronnie raygun and he still can't overcome the pigment of his skin.

2. His "I'm pro-life, but it's a family decision" stance plays so well with the Iowa fundies
I think he knows the reality of the situation. He's paying himself a salary from his campaign funds. That tells me that he knows the score.

The racists in the GOP would never nominate Cain. He is dead in the water but apparently just doesn't know it yet. The guy seems to have a HUGE ego.

41. You are right to a point. It is a trick and they do want to make it appear this way
but we need to remember how stupid their base is, they may just fall for their own trick.

In this case I don't think they would ever nominate Cain, but he may make it far enough that the republican racists get riled up are ruin any good PR they may have gotten.

5. They are laughing at him, but not ot his face.
Cain is pretending to be serious, when all he wants to do is make some money, a la Palin, and the Teabagger Republican Party pretends to believe him.

He'll be gone as soon as Iowa is over, he has no organization, no real money, no real chance, and bigots as potential voters.

to help the ruling elite maintain the social imbalances that allow them to have a disproportionate amount of wealth.
If a black president will help them maintain the imbalances, they will allow him to get elected.

10. If He Didn't Have a Chance of Being Nominated
he wouldn't be doing so well in the polls. Cain presents himself well to a GOP audience. Don't know why he couldn't be nominated.

On thing that is strange, though. Cain's surge coincided with Perry's plunge. So it would appear that a lot of Perry's supporters moved to Cain. So a lot of GOP voters must have had Perry at #1 and Cain at #2.

29. We focus on race more than they do
good grief. It's appalling. It should not matter the color of a man or woman's skin, yet we seem to want to speak to that every day here. Get's tiring.

Just my point of view.

Let's debate his plan. Let's debate his stance on abortion and woman's rights. If he wins the nomination are WE going to be the ones bringing up race???? Ironic hyperbole on our part methinks.

the moderates in the republican party decided to take their ball and go home. they voted for obama or did`t vote for anyone for senator.
keyes won 3 districts and a earth shattering 27% vote the vote. the green and socialist candidate split the 3%

16. I wouldn't compare cain to keyes. Yes, they believe in the same
things. But, keyes comes off as very boring and intellectual when he speaks. He has no charisma. cain on the other hand has a folksy way of pulling people in.
I believe that is why keyes never did well in the polls and never will and cain is holding his own for now.

and they will tell themselves that unlike Obama, they(rethugs)own Cain. Which they will after all the money via campaign contributions. Cain wont care either - he's already proven that he'll say or do anything to get elected.

17. They would take him if they had to
but it would be the closest thing to a hollow victory as you can get. Just as Bachmann would have been, though slightly less so. Generally speaking, they feel that whites are superior and females are subordinate. Bachmann herself admitted to subordination to her husband.

They would indeed nominate him BECAUSE he is black, in their effort to prove "we aren't racist!!!"

The difference being, he's THEIR black guy, their "boy." He is being used big time, and I believe he knows it and doesn't care, because he's just a male version of Palin (selling books and speaking engagements). I do think he'll be surprised if he ends up being the nominee, only because that doesn't seem to have been his goal; again, $$ -- a la Palin -- is his goal, imho.

Herman Cain is the "I have a black friend" version of Republican politics, just as Michael Steele was in a similar position.

Edit to add that Bill Maher was spot on when he said the Republicans look at Cain and say, "Why can't they all be like him?!"

Racist and bigoted to the core, and Cain is the ideal pawn, since I believe he's a bigot, or at least plays one on TV.

Personally, I think Cain is a cooky old man. He rubs me the wrong way and it has nothing to do with color.

21. I can't say I agree with you, OneGrassRoot
Yes, the powers that be pull the strings.

But here's the problem. Cain is not a stupid man. What if he actually ended up in the Oval Office and decided to "Go Rogue." What if he decided to implement his own agenda? Do you really think that those who own America want to take that chance?

My guess is that if the GOP controlled both houses of congress and "President Cain" didn't follow orders, they would quickly pass a law to make it legal to publicly lynch him. And yes, I know how ugly that sounds, given the history of this country. But this is the Republican Party we're talking about.

24. I hear you, Cyrano...
I would imagine TPTB are still determining who can be controlled the most (seems Romney consistently fits the bill for those who pull the strings).

I suppose I was speaking more to the average racist Republican voter (not that I think all are racist, but a certain subset most definitely is, imho), and the fact that they would indeed vote for him for the reasons I gave.

It goes hand in hand with Limbaugh convincing these same people since Obama came onto the scene that they aren't racist, even though prior to 2008 they were proud to claim that label.

:)

he's really out of his league and not Presidential material at all. He's profiting right now from his run, he'll pull a Palin and ride off to the bank with his $$--and if he doesn't, they'll shut him down. The GOP isn't totally suicidal, they'll run a governor/former gov. when all is said and done.

26. This defines
cognitive dissonance. They believe one thing, they behave another way.

Several people here have already nailed it: a combination of faux tolerance ("See! We aren't racist at all") and a weirdly sneaky belief that a conservative black man can defeat the liberal satanist socialist Kenyan Obama.

I would love to see Cain nominated and then see what happens when all those nice, closeted racists realize that if they're going to vote for either major party candidate they will have to vote for -- gasp! -- a colored person! I think you'd see someone making a pretty good run as an independent/third party candidate which would pull significant votes from Cain. Which would, of course, pretty much guarantee the re-election of Obama.

I would also love to see those debates. Obama is so obviously the smartest man in the room everywhere he goes, and Cain, while certainly no dunce, just isn't in the same ball park.
