Mitch "Yertle" McConnell comes out of his shell
long enough to try to throw his weight around in college sports.

BLUEFIELD — West Virginia University appeared destined for the Big 12 on Tuesday. One day later, that move appeared to have been stalled.

Why? Could it have simply been that the Big 12 needed more information before making an official invitation or were other forces at work, such as a politician from another state trying to lobby to get his school in the league ahead of another.

That is what U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., wants to know.

The New York Times and The Associated Press both released reports that Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., had reached out to the Big 12 in hopes of getting Louisville an invitation, possibly slowing down or even stopping WVU from receiving what appeared to be theirs just the day before.

2. After all, what's important?
Running the country or micromanaging college football? This is what our elected officials deem a priority. Waiting for that jobs program? Tough. We're ready for some football!

3. The name doesn't really work, because, unlike Mitch, Yertle
has a personality.
