that there might have been some sort of conspiracy to eliminate him?

Or was the shooter merely after Giffords, and the judge was just collateral damage?

his staff has said it was completely spur of the moment.

3. Yeah, that's my take on it

So why mention the case in the OP? A Federal judge would have been working on something where somebody might have benefitted had he met an early demise. It doesn't bear any notice, unless there's some sort of clue of a connection between the killer and the case.
