Trumka:Dems conceded too much, we will not stand for dismantling the safety net or letting Wall
http://thehill.com/blogs/healthwatch/medicare/190515-afl-chief-dems-conceded-too-much

Democrats on the supercommittee already have conceded too much to Republicans, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said Friday.

“These ‘supercommittee’ Democrats have put all their concessions on the table up front in the vain hope that the Republicans might reciprocate,” Trumka said in a statement. “But it doesn’t work that way. In this political climate, concessions beget more concessions — not a workable compromise.”

Trumka and other liberals were angered by reports that the six Democrats on the panel offered a proposal that would reduce deficits by $3 trillion in part through cuts to Social Security and Medicare benefits.

(snip)
“We call on politicians of both parties to stand firm and demand that Wall Street and the wealthy finally pay their fair share — given the extraordinary increases in corporate profits and income inequality in recent years. This is the moment we need to raise our voices to let Congress know that we will not stand for dismantling the safety net or letting Wall Street and the wealthiest Americans off the hook,” Trumka said.

2. Who's surprised?
I remember Randi Rhodes said setting up the committee was just BRILLIANT because if they proposed cuts like this, Obama would veto them. I wish.

6. After the way he sold me out on the healthcare 'reform', I don't trust him any farther than I
can throw him. If he backs his talk up with real action he can redeem himself, but until then he's nothing more than a windsock to me.

7. Concessions are seen as weakness by R's and the republican opportunists take
advantage of concessions without meaningful reciprocation. IMO the democrats have been damn weak, and some, well, it's questionable IMO which side of the fence they are on.

8. It breaks my mind...
...that the "Democratic Party Leadership" is SELLING Spending Cuts, Tax Cuts, and defunding the Safety Net
DURING A FUCKING RECESSION & JOBS CRISIS!!!

THAT is NOT something "Democrats" do.
THAT is standard Republican DOGMA!

Where have the "Democrats" gone?

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.

11. Rigged game against the 99% and for the 1%...
Why is it ALWAYS the Democrats that have to present their concessions first and the Republicans NEVER have to present any concessions whatsoever?

Then, the game becomes making the Democrats concede even more until the final product is fundamentally right wing (if not far right-wing) in nature.

Time after time, issue after issue, this is how the game gets played, and the Democrats don't ever point this fact out. Nor does the media for that matter. Why? Because the game is rigged against the 99%.

OWS!
