NY Police / Bloomberg Encouraging trouble makers to take it to Zucotti?
But while officers may be in a no-win situation, at the mercy of orders carried on shifting political winds and locked into conflict with a so-far almost entirely non-violent protest movement eager to frame the force as a symbol of the oppressive system they’re fighting, the NYPD seems to have crossed a line in recent days, as the park has taken on a darker tone with unsteady and unstable types suddenly seeming to emerge from the woodwork. Two different drunks I spoke with last week told me they’d been encouraged to “take it to Zuccotti” by officers who’d found them drinking in other parks, and members of the community affairs working group related several similar stories they’d heard while talking with intoxicated or aggressive new arrivals.

The NYPD’s press office declined to comment on the record about any such policy, but it seems like a logical tactic from a Bloomberg administration that has done its best to make things difficult for the occupation — a way of using its openness against it.

“He’s got a right to express himself, you’ve got a right to express yourself,” I heard three cops repeat in recent days, using nearly identical language, when asked to intervene with troublemakers inside the park, including a clearly disturbed man screaming and singing wildly at 3 a.m. for the second straight night.

---

“The police are saying ‘it’s a free for all at Zuccotti so you can go there,’” said Daniel Zetah, a member of several working groups including community affairs. “Which makes our job harder and harder because the ratio is worse and worse.”

3. Interesting strategy.
Confusing political protest with drunk and disorderly.

Let's not let them keep this policy a secret.

4. Apparently, the police have been taking "trouble makers" to Zuccotti Park.
They have been releasing people nearby the park... People who are basically going to steal items and cause trouble for the community. Its a true test, really, because in a society, we have all types of people. Not all people are going to look out for the betterment of each other. Society has been sick for a long time. It takes time to create a world in which people function with what they need and in a more balanced harmony. The media area over all has had $40,000.00 worth of equipment, both personal, purchased, and donated, stollen since the beginning of the occupation. The GA's are purposely being interrupted with people who are distracting from the work most are trying to do. At the same time, they are trying to create a free and democratic community. Its not as if we have a do over with no past and a way to create the world in which we wish it to function. We have a world that has known suffering and greed and fear and hate. We have people who have grown up in broken homes and broken communities. No one can snap one's fingers and "fix" things with a magic cure. We need to make the world whole and well enough that our future has a chance to create the better of society and those who have been broken can find a way to peace.

8. So they should be able to arrest and detain troublemakers and eject them from Zuccotti Park?

5. only feed those who work
should take care of part of that problem. At Camp Casey Colonel Ann Wright, who resigned due to the war and became an activist) would go around with a clipboard. "I need someone to watch parked cars from 2-4pm, or wash dishes from 6-8" or whatever. You didn't HAVE to sign up for a shift but it was clearly expected in the community. We also had drivers who drove all day back and forth from the peace house to the encampment, to provide constant transportation for us.

make em contribute and the freeloaders will freeload elsewhere.
