Help me get out of my damn T-Mobile contract!
Edited on Tue Jan-18-11 05:12 PM by AlabamaLibrul
(without the early termination fee)

Service was great before we moved to the beach. Now, it's terrible. They have us listed as "fair" signal, which i call complete bullshit on since it just dropped a call with my schizophrenic aunt who lives in a home while I was standing on my back porch as it does several times a day, every day, without fail.

T-Mobile has basically told me to go F myself. Anyone know of a way to get out (I checked, there are no recent material adverse changes to pounce on) or get someone else to pay the ETF?

1. Othere than reasoning, begging, buying yourself out...
you can make yourself such a pain in the ass, that they drop you... Or so, I'm told. Do a google search on getting out of cell phone contracts and see if there might not be one linked to a t-mobile forum. Good luck. I'm in that nether time, where I'm out of contract, need (really need) a new phone, but dread a new contract. So, I keep procrastinating. Pretty soon, I'll probably be stuck somewhere at the side of the road with no operating cell... Oh, well.

4. Looks super badass.... Especially the green/political victories section
Says I get the "best" coverage here with Sprint (Credo)... I might have to look into it further.

10. I was also going to suggest Credo.
I'm with T-mobile myself at the moment and will probably stay with them for awhile yet, but I get offers from Credo all the time. When I do get ready to switch, I will go with them provided their coverage area is sufficient to my purposes. I received this offer from them just today. Note that the offer includes a contract buyout credit up to $200.

11. Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks!!!
My decision is sealed - and I've found a new progressive company to support. Apparently the holding company also published a Glen Greenwald book. Too cool!

14. Make sure they aren't using the same cell towers
We have horrible Sprint reception at our house and can't switch to Credo because they use the Sprint towers here.

5. A couple of things.
Every single time you get a dropped call, call customer service. Document it.

Write customer service a letter after a month of this, send documentation as support. Tell them that you are obviously outside their point of service and wish to be terminated with no fees involved.

Keep doing the above for at least another month or two. If not successful, contact the Consumerist.com with your story or even consider posting this on Reddit. I am amazed at how quickly bad publicity will change a company's mind when things are posted on those two websites.

Also, learn the art of CSR Roulette: always, always be as pleasant as possible. If you don't hear the right answer you're looking for, thank them and call another time and hope to get someone else. Never swear or threaten, always be pleasant. Sometimes you can get as many as 5 different people with as many different answers. Be patient.

6. Thanks for the heads up - plenty of CSR dealings, not so many on getting something like this
done.

7. amplify your complaint -- tweet about it
Companies have social media employees monitoring facebook and twitter and will respond to customer service complaints. Get your message out there.

9. in fact, there is a customer service chat on twitter on Tuesday nights.
I'll get the hash tag and post it here in a bit. I think it starts at 5:30 pacific time. Lots of customer service professionals engage in the chat.

12. If you've recently moved and your service is no longer good ...
they are supposed to release you from your contract. Or that's what I thought. Moving is your hook with them.

We had T-Mobile for a number of years, and I always found them to be very straightforward and fair. (Better than Verizon, which we had before moving here; and better than AT&T, to which we switched for husband's iPhone).

Go into a T-Mobile store and talk to someone in person. I think that's always better than calling.

13. The issue is that they tell me my signal's good.
But linked upthread was an offer to switch to Credo Mobile (which is apparently a totally cool company) with a contract buyout up to $200 per line. My ETF is $200 per line. Perfect!

15. Find out what towers Credo is using in your area
Credo won't work for us because they use the towers that get lousy reception in our older neighborhood.

17. To anyone else considering it.
Credo owns no network. They simply resale Sprint network. If you get good coverage with Sprint you will have the same good coverage with Credo. If you have bad, horrible, no coverage with Sprint well it won't be any better with Credo.

18. I got out of my Sprint contract because of the lousy reception
They had planned on adding a tower very close to our house so they just kept giving us discounts and telling us as soon as that tower is up, your reception will be fine. Then some neighbors petitioned the city and the permit to put up the tower was revoked. So Sprint said ok, and released us from our contract.

16. Well, good luck: but look before you leap
Although there are many positive reviews of this company, this one from Jan. 14 (if not a plant), should be considered:

I was told when I switched to Credo from AT&T that Credo would pay a contract buyout up to $200 per line transferred. I was told by the Sales Representative that my bill would be $79 per month, which was much cheaper than AT&T. I proceeded to transfer my wife's and my number.
My first bill came and it was high due to connection fees, which I had expected. I submitted my final bill from ATT to Credo for the contract buyout credit on 10/01/10.
My second bill came and my bill was still over $100 and so was the case the next month. I then realized I had been deceived by the company and wanted out of my contract. Since I did not know I would be paying way more than promised per month until after the 90 day period, I requested that my early termination fees be waived and that they proceed with the processing of my contract buyout credit. I was told no final bill from ATT was never received.
Credo asked me to resubmit my final bill from ATT. Credo said that they would submit the request to corporate for my early termination fee waiver, and call me back in 48 hours to follow up. We agreed to wait until we received the call back from Credo to cancel our account. No call was ever received from Credo. We submitted our final bill from AT&T a second time to Credo on 10-08-2010 via fax (415-371-1048) and email (contractbuyout@credomobile.com). After waiting two weeks I called Credo to cancel my account and was told that they showed no record of the request for contract buyout or early termination fee waiver, but said that they would submit the request for both and call me back in 48 hours to follow up.
I received a final bill from Credo totaling over $400 that did not show a credit for early termination fees or a contract buyout, so I called to inquire the last week of November. I was told that I did not qualify for an early termination fee waiver and I was also told that my contract buyout request and final ATT bill was never received. I submitted the request again this time via certified mail to: c-works 625 willow springs lane york, PA. 17406. I received the green confirmation of receipt card a few days later that verified Credo received the final bill from ATT on 12/08/2010.
I waited until the 13 of December and called back. I was told by a customer service representative that since I was no longer a customer I did not qualify for the credit of my ATT cancelation fees. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was connected with "Rayleene". She told me that she would submit my request to corporate and that it would more than likely be approved and that I would see the credit applied by 01/03/2011. She also said she would call me back in 2-3 days to follow up. She never called back and is now unreachable.
I called Credo today 01/10/2011 at 2:46pm CST I spoke with a supervisor and was told that the credit request had not yet been reviewed and told that she would submit the request to corporate. I then asked for the direct number to corporate and was given the number to a customer liaison named Yvonne 1-888-507-3247. I left a message and am waiting for a call back.

20. That's the first negative comment I have ever heard about Credo
I have more friends who have Credo than any other carrier. And they all love it and have aired no complaints to me.

21. I have never heard of such
I've been with Credo (formerly Working Assets) for 20 years. I've never had a billing problem with them, and the only time I ever had any trouble at all was when my new mobile phone wouldn't dial a certain area code and exchange, and that issue was worked out within a couple of days.

Early termination fee waivers are subject to the contract that was executed by the customer.

This post sounds like it's not telling the whole story.

19. Credo bought out my other contract on two phones
For $175 each.

I don't know if they are still doing the deal, but it would be worth it to be a Credo customer and piss off Glenn Beckkk.
