4. What rights do we have when police direct us as to where we can or cannot be?
"Sabeghi told police he wanted to pass so that he could reach his home but that police refused, Kelly said. Sabeghi asked why he couldn't be allowed to return home and was attacked by police with batons, Kelly said. Kelly said he got his information from Sabeghi and another source that he didn't identify."

It does sound like they used excessive force. Was an initial police action justified in any way?

17. I've always thought this - just not born a fascist, I guess. But you don't get AWAY with it.
Personally I think that police forces - all police forces - need civilian review boards with open public participation and hire/fire power over both officers and police chiefs. This hire/fire power should override any authority granted to officials of the local government.

12. Apparently suggesting that people should defend themselves is frowned upon here.

Hell, I didn't even advocate for it. I said 'I'm starting to think it's justified' to use a gun for self-defense against attackers.

Why police are any more justified to murder innocent, unarmed people than anyone else is kind of a mystery to me. Anyone care to explain why an innocent person should allow themselves to be murdered by police?

In the meanwhile, I do not advocate for violence against police. I advocate for audio and video recording of them. All of them at all times while they are on duty.

I'm really not sure what's so wrong with that.

28. Alas, yes.
Some of the mods re absurdly quick on the trigger (see what I did there...?) with anything that might presume to suggest someone might actually fight back (physically) against the totalitarians. Had a friend get banned for a relatively mild "offense," and he said "screw this" and never came back.

Er, well...his actual statement was rather more colorful. =P

31. Because you will spend a LOT of time in jail
One of my best friends from high school is locked up in Texas State Prison for 10 years for having the audacity to defend himself when the cops decided to kick his ass. He's a tough bastard. I once saw someone throw a tire iron at the back of his head...it bounced off. He then picked it up and handed it back to the guy and offered a fair fight. Needless to say, the cops bit off more than they could chew. Took a few fat ass cops to take him down. But 10 years, just gone. He'll be out next September, finally.

29. Precisely my point.

What kind of 'free county' incarcerates anyone for not letting the police beat them to or near to death?

Anyone who accepts that is a traitor to freedom and democracy. Period.

I defy even the freeptards and teabaggers to argue with that.

If a cop tells you to get on all fours and bark like a dog are you going to do it? If you refuse, just how badly can they beat you for you to consider it justified? Will you apologize to them after they beat you? Or will you bark like a dog and thank them for not beating you?

8. Welcome to the world of OPD. Most of us who grew up in this town
give the police wide berth. I've encountered a few OPD over the years who were professional and could turn off their inner asshole. By and large every one I grew up with, no matter rich or poor, black brown or white avoid OPD as much as possible. The rot is from the top down as far as I can tell.

I grew up in oakland, and we had a few officers in our neighborhood we knew to avoid, as teens who were just having fun do. I know exactly what you mean.

but ya, it sucks to have that complex that cops are dangerous, because when you actually NEED one, you are afraid to ask for help.

...not that OPD *would* help anyway...

aka Blue Meanies (because of the blue jumpsuits they wore at the time). They were just vicious then.

BTW, just got a call from the Police Benevolent Association asking for donations. I told them that I am philosophically opposed to supporting the police, having observed the past 50 years of brutality.

38. Reminds me of Neda Soltan in Iran
Remember her, she was the young lady killed by pro-regime militants during the 2009 protests. She, like this person, wasn't even participating.

My guess is the riot cops have an adrenaline rush and they want blood. They know that such behavior in at the main protests are dangerous because there are lots of people and they will be on camera. However, if you find someone in the back alley, well then all bets are off.

is it time for the National Guard to be called, Progressive Democrat Mayor Quan, or are you approving of the actions of your Pigs?

Has Progressive Democrat Mayor Quan made any recent statements since changing her position to allow the protesters to stay before releasing her hounds on them again?

Progressive Democrat Mayor Quan is very confusing and flip floppy as to her position regarding the senseless beating of her citizens. I really wish she would clarify the city's position.

For Kayvan

Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of my Ranger Regiment.

Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move further, faster and fight harder than any other soldier.:

Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be, one-hundred-percent and then some.

Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well-trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow.

Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.
Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission though I be the lone survivor.

46. I regret having to kick another one of these. The riot police who engage in this behavior turn my
stomach and only stand to reinforce the conversation in this country that many of the police have become an arm of the 1%, no longer enforcers of law, but rather, tax payer funded militant protectors of the rich and powerful minority who are trying every trick in their playbook to stop the peaceful assembly of the majority seeking redress from a government hijacked by the plutarchy.

This country is no longer being governed, it is being ruled, most of us now know it, they know we know it, and they really don't know how to stop what is happening.

Their corporate media is failing them, their bought and paid for government officials can no longer fool us with their phony speeches and promises, their infiltrators and provocateurs are having little success, their tools in the police force are showing themselves for the brutal thugs they really are, and We the people, finally, are in the streets and not backing down from authority rule trying to force blind obedience on the majority using violent, militant tactics, on behalf of those who are clinging to their power, trying to somehow stop the freedom of speech and assembly in our alleged Democracy.

You assist an unjust administration most effectively by obeying its orders and decrees. An evil administration never deserves such allegiance. Allegiance to it means partaking of the evil.
A good person will resist an evil system with his whole soul. Disobedience of the laws of an evil state is therefore a duty. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
