Blue collar whites in Pennsylvania back Occupy Wall Street
snip

We keep hearing that Dems who whisper a word of support for Occupy Wall Street risk alienating blue collar whites in key swing states — voters who tend to find outsized protest tactics culturally alienating.

But some new polling suggests that in Pennsylvania, at least, this simply isn’t happening.

Franklin and Marshall is out with a new poll gauging attitudes towards the protests. Overall, 57 percent of Pennsylvania voters say they would be very or somewhat likely to vote for a candidate who supports the movement’s goals, versus only 33 percent who say the opposite. And a plurality of 49 percent generally supports the protests, versus 37 percent who oppose it.

2. Despite its flaws
and there are many, this movement is succeeding in getting groups of people who have certain differences recognize one very important similarity, that of class.

It is putting class as a primary designation, trumping all the divide-and-conquer issues, and pointing out that our political system helps only those in the class that most of us don't belong to, that is the ruling class.

If this is all OWS accomplishes, it will be a success imho.

3. Kudos to whomever came up with the term, "We are the 99%" It's a perfect slogan.

Anyone know who authored that? According to a citation at Wiki, it started as a tumblr blog: http://wearethe99percent.tumblr.com/Introduction

Who are the originator(s)?

4. I don't know, but I can tell you
That in 2006 or so, I was involved in a daily protest and I had a sign made that said

99% of the politicians ignore 99% of the people

:)
