News Corp Starts Site To Compensate Victims — If They Supply All Their Personal Info
News Corp knows it screwed up big time with the voicemail hacking scandal. They’re now trying to compensate victims — by asking for all their personal information.

Really, how low can they possibly go?

3. I'm gonna call "gross overreaction" on this one
I'm certainly no fan of NewsCorp, but out of curiosity as to what pernicious personal information they want before they compensate you, I decided to go to the site and download the form.

Gasp! Shock. They want:

(1) Your name as applicant

(2) The date of your application

(3) Your address. (Oh, heaven forfend they are tracking your address! D'oh, if they're going to send you money, they need an address)

(4) Applicant's solicitors (if any) (Yes, they'll deal directly with your tony British lawyer, if you have one)

(5) Brief detail of claim

etc.

That is the extent of the "personal" information they are requesting. Download the Word doc. and look yourself.

This is not some violation of personal information.

4. While I agree with you, that they require the name and address...
I can't help frothing at the mouth whenever I hear the name Murdoch and realize that that pig and his son the pig, and everyone else running that corrupt, piece of crap empire, are running free and living well, rather than eating bland food on plastic plates behind bars. I have no idea why they're not incarcerated.

5. Then what is this post about?
I thought it was about onerous and copious amounts of personal information they were weaseling out of people. That is what the post indicates. That, as it turns out, is not true.

Sure they're scum. So write a post about how they're scum, not about the personal information shit.

7. The Bloomberg link says absolutely nothing
about excessive personal information. It has no facts with respect to that whatsoever.

And I absolutely did not riff of the spin from some commenter. (I didn't even see any comments) I actually downloaded the real application form directly from the News Corp site.

8. I didn't mean to imply you were at fault
I simply pointed out that it wasn't as onerous as the primary link indicated. Hardly surprising they want personal info to define applicants - could be mucho spoofing going on in some cases.

10. I'm merely trying to point out that their heinous behavior is such...

that nothing they can or will do, is correct in their hands. Not even asking for a name and address. Given that the assholes are guilty of eavesdropping on private individuals, even their asking for a NAME is heinous. They ought to give money over to a govt entity and pay them to distribute compensation.

In fact, I agree with the poster. Murdoch and his disgusting organization should not be asking for the names and addresses of ANYONE.

9. You're missing something.
They also say at the top of the application page "strictly private & confidential". Ironic coming from a company that illegally invades a person's right to privacy.
