If peaceful protests ALWAYS, work,
Why are we still in Iraq? Seems to me, bunches & bunches of people protested very peacefully.
Why is there still so much racism? Maybe Malcolm X had the better idea?
Why after all this time, is class warfare STILL being waged & the poor are still used up and thrown away; and people continue to die because they fall through the cracks? Folks have been protesting peacefully wars & poverty for exactly how long?

Power never concedes power easily.

1. They'll sometimes give crumbs but they won't
concede power/wealth.

OWS is raising awareness, but it's going to take more organization and discipline to actually accomplish major change.

3. It's going to take tens of millions of people in the streets..
Power concedes nothing, ever.

10. The reas on power will not concede to OWS is because
power concedes nothing without demands.

2. Peaceful protests don't always work.
But peaceful protests are the only kind that CAN work if your goal is to make a better society.

4. Non-Violent, yes. Peaceful, no.
You take what you want

You don't ask for it

This does not mean hurt another person

This does not mean be unethical or immoral

This means you must be prepared to take what it is you want

5. I agree.
You never hurt another person.

You never do anything unethical or immoral.

How about sabotaging a tank or bomb headed to a bomb a country of brown people for oil.

That's destroying property, right?

7. I am not a Christian, but Jesus was never recorded as having hurt another person physically...
He did do some property damage in the temple, however....

Make of that what you will....

6. I guess my point is this.
There are very few absolutes in life.
This is ALWAYS wrong!
This is ALWAYS the way!
You NEVER do this!
Get my drift?
Life is so much more fluid than that.

26. Agreed. One exception blows "always" or "never" out of the water.
Those terms are pretty useless most of the time.

11. Nothing ALWAYS works.
Peaceful protest depends on getting an audience on your side that has sway with the oppressor.

In this case, no such animal has been identified, but I think you only escalate as necessity dictates.

Give peace more than a chance but always be prepared for the worst.

Nothing ALWAYS works.

Peaceful is better than not; it's hard to hold the high ground and continue momentum when you tarnish the message.

22. Of course it was.
I'm just nit-picky.

For a non-rhetorical answer:

I think most of us have a line somewhere that, when crossed, will move us into more aggressive action, violent or not. It's just not in the same place for all. Too many, imo, want to use physical force or violence as a FIRST resort, or an early resort, when it should be the last.

Getting the 99% to come to consensus about where that line is might be more challenging than actually solving the current economic crisis, given some not part of or owned by the 1% implementing solutions.
