Can you imagine our world if the Republicans get their way?
Edited on Mon Nov-07-11 04:27 PM by JayceR
Worst case scenario: Rick Perry wins with Sarah Palin as his running mate. The GOP somehow gains a super-majority in both houses soon afterward. Can you imagine the sort of bullshit we'll have to put up with in the following years? Fat-cats will aggressively push their agenda down our throats while our economy and living standards plunge to third world levels. America will become even more of a joke than it is now to rational people around the world. Kiddies roam the streets because education is privatized, medicare and social security are gutted, and people starve to death because "They Didn't Work for It". Healthcare will be something like that new movie "In Time" where the only way to survive is to be born into wealth, and everyone else dies young. Due to lax regulation, massive income disparity, and no antitrust laws whatsoever, life won't be worth living unless you inherit wealth from daddy. One can only watch the world crumble before them. Hopefully it will be over soon once global warming finally kills all life on Earth. Perhaps the billionaires will upload their brains to computers and enjoy virtual reality porn worlds aboard massive solar-powered spaceships aimlessly floating through the universe until the end of time.

Unfortunately, I have reason to believe that this is the most likely course of events.

1. I've had that nightmare for awhile now. They wont win legitimately, they will
have to steal the election, but they are in a position right now to do that as well. The electronic machines are totally unsafe, and are owned by Republicans.

2. Except that the vast majority of people
believe that Social Security and Medicare absolutely need to be preserved.

Oh, and Sarah Palin would not accept the VP slot a second time, although if she did that would surely be the kiss of death as far as the election goes.

10. You'd be surprised...
Republicans will support ANYTHING that benefits the rich, even at their expense. If Fox News and Rush Limbaugh regurgitate nonstop talking points about how Social Security is a Marxist Ponzi Scheme, this stance will become their prevailing thought. Look how quick they lashed out against affordable healthcare after copious Red-Baiting from the media.

21. Your right.
I remember poor people supporting Reagan believing in the trickling. There wasn't even Fox and Limbaugh then.

Well, given that we nearly wiped out all life on the planet under the shrub, his dad, and Reagan, I guess that's not saying much.

7. For one - There will be far more disrespect for the "rule of law"
Women will still find a way to end unwanted and dangerous pregnancies.

OWS will look like a very minor quiet get-together in someone's living room.

Their agenda is not really supported by the vast majority of the populace and once it takes effect and reality sinks in to the Fox supplicants, all hell will break loose.

17. 10-to-1? Not enough for the GOP
http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/08/12/7355102-10-to-1-not-enough-for-the-gop

By Jamil Smith - Fri Aug 12, 2011 2:18 PM EDT

So as to escape Rick Perry's shine and keep themselves on the front page (wow, Mitt Romney), the Republican presidential field (minus a few) really showed out in last night's debate. The Jerry Springer-like cheers from the crowd really underscored the spectacle that presidential debating has become, with so much emphasis on who "won" and who "lost." Aside from all the Pawlenty-Bachmann scrapes and Ron Paul distinguishing his anti-war position (and how), what really stands out?

The moment you see above, when every single Republican presidential candidate on the stage refused a hypothetical budget deal that contained $1 of taxes for every $10 of spending cuts. Steve Benen puts that in rather stark perspective:

Let’s note for context that in March — just five months ago — Republicans on the Joint Economic Committee released a report on deficit reduction. In it, House GOP officials outlined their ideal cuts-to-revenue ratio, and concluded that “successful” attempts at deficit reduction meet this goal: “85% spending cuts and 15% revenue increases.” Roughly speaking, that’s about a 5-to-1 ratio in Republicans’ favor — and this is what GOP officials characterized as their ideal earlier this year.

And yet, as of last night, every Republican running for president believes a 10-to-1 ratio simply isn’t good enough. What’s more, as the video shows, the crowd of Iowa Republicans roared with approval.

19. We'd go right back to where we were in 2007-08
Never forget, Republicans are NOT for "freedom", "smaller government", "cutting the deficit" or "job creation", it's just something they say to get votes. History is the proof.

22. If that happens we may have the American Revolution 2
If we could orchestrate a nationwide strike where the 99% didn't go to work, the 1 % may see how few they really are. But then again many couldn't do without even one day's pay plus I could see many fired.

24. At this point
It's take a risk to survive, or feed on increasingly smaller crumbs until you die, slowly and painfully. What will it profit a man if he stays employed in a shitty job for a couple of years but loses all life and meaning and the possibility of a future?

27. The economy would collapse completely this time, they would do nothing about it

because they are to stupid to do anything and can blame their inaction on "believing in the free market".

It is possible that people might then finally get it through their heads that conservative economic policies have been failing us since Reagan's first day in office. We might even get some meaningful change at that point because the choices will be change or die.

It is possible that the evil conservatives (unlike the stupid conservatives) see this as a possibility also and are actually willing to throw the 2012 election just so they can continue leaching off an economy that isn't doomed.
