A Rare Moment Of Emphatic Agreement Between DU and Freeperville - Paterno Must Go

So, I took a peek at what they have to say about Paterno...

The uniformity of sentiment is overwhelming.

Yes he is so concerned, he is leaving at the end of the season. The dirt bag still thinks football is more important than these children. Joe you are a POS.

Coach Paterno live in a glass house of “higher ethics” which we now know was just good press. At his core, his job was to shepherd young men and protect them. He did next to nothing to do so. Read the open transcripts from the grand jury. What his coach did was child rape, and he either ignored what was going on, or turned a blind eye. He should step down today, and do so with his head held low.

Had that been one of his grandsons I bet he would have done more.

Joe treated this as if were nothing more than a recruiting violation, instead of CHILDREN BEING ANALLY RAPED.

Just kicking Sandusky out of the locker wasn’t enough, he should have strangled the sonofabitch.

3. True

It's uplifting to at least know that the simplest level of common human decency lives.

2. I don't think opposition to child rape is political or controversial.
That's pretty universal, at least outside the Vatican.

4. Well, after having once watched them defend the lynching of Emmet Till...

5. It's not a universal opinion
as I see someone busily spreading apologia in DU for Joe Paterno's blatant disregard for children being raped by a fucking pedophile. Some people are unable to get past supporting the fucking football program and its 'living legend.' Shameful.

6. But... the money!
All the money their football program brings in, surely that mitigates it just a little bit, right? I mean come on, it's money. A lot of money.

(I hope I don't need the sarcasm tag.)

7. There have been a few of those here too

But they are a distinct minority who probably just need to sit down and think about it quietly for a minute.

10. The entertainment world is even worse
Just look at R. Kelly. He was found not guilty in his trial, but there was a lesser known case in Florida that produced more evidence of his activities with underage girls, though that case was thrown out because of procedural issues.

There's also Paul Reubens. He was the butt of many jokes back in the early 90s after the incident at the porn theater, but again it's not as widely known the he was part of the Jefferey Jones thing. The authorities seized materials from his home that they claimed depicted minors in sexual situations - he claims they were part of his kitsch collection. I've heard several interviews with him over the last year or so and none of the interviewers have brought this up. Of course, it's possible that this part of his ground rules for giving an interview.

There's also Michael Jackson too. Like R. Kelly he was found not guilty, but nonetheless he retained much of his support when the allegations were out there and he had yet to stand trial.

That's the way it goes. If you support somebody, you are likely to make apologies and excuses for them that you wouldn't for somebody you don't support.

8. That's because he's not running for the Republican nomination for President.

9. If the Freepers agree, I need to rethink my position on child rape.
No, not really.

11. Don't fret. The freeps will be backpedaling & crawfishing soon enough
After all, their bilious hero commands it:

Limbaugh links Dems to Penn State scandal. But Rick Santorum once lauded Jerry Sandusky

Rush Limbaugh broke a land speed record this week (remember, he moves fast for a big man) in linking the alleged child molestation scandal at Penn State to…yes, the Democrats. But it’s a Republican presidential candidate who actually has a closer connection to the person at the center of the scandal.

You can hear Rush’s riff here. It is from Tuesday’s show, before PSU coach Joe Paterno resigned Wednesday, saying he wish he’d done more — like, say, call the cops – after he heard that his former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky was allegedly sexually abusing a young boy in the team’s showers.

Nevertheless, allow us a brief, drive-by media summary:

On his show Tuesday, El Rushbo said alums and (mu-hoo-hahahah) “The Media” have wanted to take down Penn State coach Joe Paterno for years. Why? Because he has an “impeccable reputation” Rush said, and “impeccably reputed people make everybody else look bad. So If we can make everybody looks like a reprobate, it’s not so bad to be a reprobate.”

Mark my words; after they get wind of this from their favorite windbag, they'll think it's their duty to find out the identities of the victims and post them online - along with addresses, phone numbers & e-mail accounts.
