Newt just lost the college...
blaming the students...claiming they don't get out of school fast enough. He's under the impression that a part time job will pay for college...

He straight up blamed the students.

and watching with me. He was pissed that he blamed the students. Though...it's not like my son would EVER vote for him.

8. Similar to a school of fish, or a gaggle of geese, or
a murder of ravens...the audience was an anus of assholes.

13. This is tonight's debate at Oakland (MI) University?
Edited on Wed Nov-09-11 09:48 PM by Fire Walk With Me
I went there in 85/86. There were on-campus conservative groups there, full-time with offices in the student assembly. We at the radio station played Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel and other colorful acts to piss them off, among other things (the music went onto all ceiling speakers in the student assembly building).

OU has its share of conservative shitheads, likely to this day.

23. The semester after I left, they tried to ban sex on campus.
Edited on Wed Nov-09-11 09:55 PM by Fire Walk With Me
No shit. I only went there to be with a girlfriend

I forget the name of the conservative group that had an office across from the radio station, but one of my friends called them the John Birch society...they apparently hated most of all, the Uncle Bonsai song "Penis Envy"

And welcome to DU! :toast::hi:

15. Holy crap did he actually say that?
I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, but it just shows how out of touch these people are if they think that college tuition costs no more than a cell phone bill.

7. They're so out of touch
They have no idea how expensive it is. How is eliminating Federal student loan programs going to eliminate the problem? That will only create even more debt for students.

25. Of course they don't. College was affordable when they went. Heavily subsidized
by the state and federal government. And, the minimum wage was higher in comparable dollars.

So, they had it much easier than today's students do. And, they think that after all they've done to fuck things up for college students, that today's students are on the gravy train that Newt and his ilk were on?

Sheesh!

10. Two of my brohters worked their way through college - over 30 years ago.
You couldn't do it today unless you went the community college route and then transferred to a local commuter state university.

12. My son's books this semester...
were $700, that was used. He'll sell them back and probably end up with $125.

They have no idea what what college costs now...or they just don't give a shit. If you're wealthy you get a college education, if not tough shit.

14. Newt Gingrich Ruined Student Loans in the mid 90's
And created the misery that student borrowers are experiencing today thanks to forcing the removal of bankruptcy protection and consumer relief and allowing private banks to charge whatever the hell interest they want on student loans. Forced this on Congress by attaching these provisions to the Armed Forces budget. Privatized Sallie Mae who was underwriting the whole deal. Sickening!

Last year my son received a pell grant..he didn't this year.

The teapublicans say pell grants are the new welfare.

My son has an internship and he works with a lot of wingers...who repeat this stuff at work.

It's disgusting what they've done.

27. How lucky I was
to go to college at a time when you were expected to explore and grow, not just graduate. Yeah, I worked two jobs and lived on a tight budget in a horrible cheap college apartment, but (at a state university) my parents could afford to give me the best opportunity of my life. It's tragic that so many kids today miss out on that.

30. I am glad this was recorded.
In the event that this lowlife gets the nomination, the Dems have a ready-made commercial for MTV and other outlets patronized by college-age folks. Ditto for Ron Paul's comments.
