Things are about to get ugly in Portland
Edited on Thu Nov-10-11 01:49 PM by me b zola
Portland has a long history of brutal police actions against her citizens, something that has stunned us with the initial police cooperation to this point. Our Mayor, Sam Adams, is a Democrat, but of the corporatist nature, so his cooperation this far has been suspect in my mind. Well, all of that cooperation is about to end. Mayor Adams is bending to corporate interest and is on the cusp arresting the Occupy Portlanders.

I am terrified. I have marched with them on most of their marches, but now I must put my ass on the line and be arrested with them. I am so sad and scared. If you are in the Portland area, please stand with us. Put your ass on the line, because your ass is on the line if you don't.

1. one great thing
That the Occupy movement has done- it has shown the true colors of corporate democrats and that they will turn on the very people who elected them when push comes to shove.time. to vote them out and replace them with real progressives. Occupy is the DINOs worst nightmare. I salute your courage. Please stay safe.

I'm also on my way to my local occupation. Probably safer than Portland right now. Or not.

Be safe, be strong, never give an inch to fear.

5. A message to Sam Adams
And other DINO mayors- DO NOT USE VIOLENCE AGAINST OUR OCCUPY BROTHERS AND SISTERS! If you do, nationwide we will go through hell and high water to ensure you are not reelected, and that your name will. Be reviled across the nation for employing violence against the very people who elected you.

9. Police chief says they are going to "reclaim" the parks
Oh good, :sarcasm:, authority will take the parks back from the people

7. I remember seeing video of a Portland cop carefully applying
pepper spray by eyedropper to a mother and baby at an anti Iraq war rally. Nice of them to avoid splashing it on their clothing...The screaming wasn't any worse, though, I'm sure.

10. Protest is your first amendment right, camping in a city park is not
And public polls in the area, while still showing support for the overarching theme of the Occupy protests, has turned against people claiming public property as effectively their own private property. In fact, stopping that practice by GOP fat-cats is one of the main themes of the Occupy movement.

You're welcome to go home every night and come back in the morning - even if that causes inconvenience and loss of income for businesses in downtown Portland. But turning a park into a hobo shelter is not what the vast majority of people want done with the taxes they pay to support their public spaces.

Democracy means following the will of the majority. Not a small angry minority.
