Penn St. players asked to wear white in support of Paterno.
Just read on twitter that Penn St coaches are asking players to wear white at Saturday's game as a show of support for Joe Paterno. I am on iPhone and cannot provide a link.

5. Bad idea and this sums it up:
"asking for friends and family to wear white when a huge movement to have those in attendance wear blue to support victims of child abuse seems unsavory"

20. wearing white supports pedophilia no matter how they plan to
spin that. They shame the school more with every turn. consider the amount of people who don't watch football who will. Nice advert for the school.

4. OP has it WRONG, for chrissakes. "Friends and family." PLAYERS will wear our HOME UNIFORM.
Edited on Thu Nov-10-11 08:32 PM by WinkyDink
And yes, Penn Staters use the First-Person Plural.

30. Yup. Distorted headline in the OP.
The players will be wearing their usual uniform. The report is from TMZ, too, which makes it extra questionable.

6. Incredible!! Are they really this fucking dense? I wonder if any of the players refuse to wear it

8. I really hope that is some sort of unsubstantiated rumor -
At this point I think if I were Penn State I'd shut down football for the season, continue cleaning house, hire new folks, and start anew.

10. Their football program certainly is
but they have that in common with football programs across the country.

If a player doesn't put somebody else in intensive care or kill him/her outright, it's all hushed up. Football is god.

14. Mixed up priorities.
I think the Big Ten and/or NCAA should factor in the behavior of students, faculty, and staff in deciding if something should be done to officially reprimand PSU.

16. Blindfolds might be more appropriate
and ear plugs.

This is grieving. They are grieving for the death of their fantasy version of Sandusky and Paterno. The riot was phase 1: anger.

Stage 2: Denial (wearing white). It may sound strange but I'm serious; this is a kind of grieving.

Football program are grieving for the victims. To this "grieving" for "poor coach Paterno" looks pretty bad.

28. They switch around a lot.
In baseball things are simple. Gray on the road (easier to keep clean), white at home. Technically, I think you're right, the home color is blue.

IIRC, home team chooses in football.
I know that Michigan wears blue whenever they can. The Steelers also generally pick black, although they chose white in Superbowl XL to highlight the fact that they had made it from the lowest seed in the AFC playoffs. In a similar fashion, PSU players might choose white to express feeling ill at ease or not at home by recent events or Paterno's firings.

But PSU has always been a bit flexible on this without there being a meaning to choosing to wear the away jerseys. There is a certain popularity of the strikingly austere effect of white jerseys on white pants. There is also a tradition of whiteouts among the fans, where the stadium is filled with white shirts.

29. I know Michigan State wears the same colors home or away...unless
it's a throwback. I was pretty sure that UofM did as well, as does my own personal favorite, WI. Along with NFL teams, which, at least the ones I follow (GB, Lions, Texans) wear their home colors and then an away, unless it's Battle Red day in Houston (which was really fricking stupid and led to a Houston Tampons nickname) or a throwback day. I am a pretty avid football fan and I did not know that Penn switches up their home and away colors.

31. Distorted. You are incorrect. The players are NOT being asked
to wear white. The story is from TMZ, which means that it's as likely to be completely untrue as it is to be true.

Unrecommended for posting incorrect information and not bothering to check it before posting.
