Let us hope that out of all this horrendous story of the kids being sexually abused, North America

and the world build a better, safer world, where the abuse of children is always, always reported first to the police instead of talked about in hushed tones as it was here and has been in the Catholic Church.

May this be a new day for the world.

1. At the very least, it should teach the lesson

that if you don't report this type of thing because it's the right thing to do, you should at least report it out of your own self-interest.

2. That's what makes mandatory reporting laws

a good thing. Laws mean you _have_ to report, instead of trying to avoid being the one to blow the whistle.
