Congress approval rating at 9% and Congress doesn't like it

Wonderful clip of Senator Micheal Bennet (D-Colorado) comparing Congress's approval rating with the IRS, making the US a communist nation and Fidel Castro.

Segment runs 3:33

1. They don't *really* care what the approval rating is. "We the people" tend to
vote for 'the name you know', so congressmembers can be fairly confident of their reelection if they choose to seek it. So, they don't care much about a poor approval rating.

Their jobs are secure, and they know it.

9. Is that what happend in 2010, they all got re-elected?
I thought we lost a majority to the other Party, which would suggest that many who sought it did not get it?

13. Typically there is only about a 10% turnover rate in congress - both houses.
Edited on Tue Nov-15-11 02:21 PM by Obamanaut
The preponderance of that turnover is caused by death and retirement.

Historically, about 90% of the members of both houses who seek reelection are successful. That's a real good record for job security.

edited to add this wiki link, one article that supports my numbers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congressional_stagnation_in_the_United_States

12. Get the word out - VOTE THEM OUT!!
That's why we need to get the word out to all the numb-heads out there.

The incumbents have screwed the people and we need elect new people

1) It'll show that we won't take their crap anymore.
We demand to be listened to.

2) If the "newly electeds" don't make life better for "We THE PEOPLE"
we'll replace them, too.

Every decision our elected officials make needs to make life better for all
Americans.

The "corporations are people" nonsense needs to be reversed and the Supreme
Court needs to be investigated for not doing their job.

4. Yes, and it will fall lower than 9%. I won't predict a bottom, but
things are not changing, so I see no reason to feel that Congress' sinking numbers have been frozen.

7. If the question were, "Do you approve or disapprove of your member of Congress?"
my guess is that the number would be much higher.

People don't like Congress, but they do tend to like their own representative because that person brings the goodies to their district.

11. so
as noted on Rachel, they spent yesterday naming post offices after people or somesuch SHIT.
apparently they don't care. you'd think some of them would just even want to feel better about themselves. but i guess they're just buried in the greed.
