I have no idea what people don't understand here. We are on our own. There is nobody in the government who is going to help the peasants. It is US against THEM....and they are clearly winning. A matter of fact, I believe they have made their victory lap for the 50th time.

I think people are in absolute denial. We live in a democracy in name only...fascism is here.

I understand it's hard to look at a situation objectively when a person feels connected to that situation, and to many they feel some kind of connection with Obama - but it is an Obama that exists purely in their heads. Campaign mode 2008 Obama and president Obama are like two different people. All anyone has to do is not think of him as a Democrat they voted for - but look at his actions objectively and the truth is quite clear - he sides with corporations - he has continued many of the Bush era policies, hell he CHOSE to overlook the crimes of the Bush admin. And that's just scratching the surface. George Carlin was right - we have a one party system - the money party - and they don't give a damn about us - regardless of whether there is a (D) or an (R) in front of their name. Almost always I think the Dems are better than the repubs, but more and more that's become like saying a giant douche is better than a shit sandwich - ya know? We deserve better. We must demand better.

Dorli Rainey, a longtime liberal activist who moved here from Austria in 1956, also sent us this email explaining how it happened:

Something funny happened on my way to a transportation meeting in Northgate. As I got off the bus at 3rd and Pine I heard helicopters above. Knowing that the problems of New York would certainly precipitate action by Occupy Seattle, I thought I better check it out. Especially since only yesterday the City Government made a grandiose gesture to protect free speech. Well free speech does have its limits as I found out as the cops shoved their bicycles into the crowd and simultaneously pepper sprayed the so captured protesters. If it had not been for my Hero (Iraq Vet Caleb) I would have been down on the ground and trampled. This is what democracy looks like. It certainly left an impression on the people who rode the No. 1 bus home with me. In the women's movement there were signs which said: "Screw us and we multiply."

Ms. Rainey, you are a civic treasure.



Absolutely agree with the the author's statement in the last sentence.

She's been demonstrating for good causes locally for at least 60 years.

please be pleasant and polite. They're getting a lot of yelling and screaming calls today. The woman who's answering the phone is polite, friendly, and AGREES WITH US.

If you'd like to call the Seattle PD, be sure and call the headquarters. You might also want to remind the SPD that they are still under investigation by the Department of Justice.

I've always tried to balance my fear and suspicion of police with the understanding that most of them were just honest people, doing their jobs. Probably joined up in the first place to serve and protect right?

Then I see things like this... and I wonder, some times. Perhaps the decent cops are the few and the ones willing to pepper spray an old woman are the many. There is no justification for this. They could have moved her in any number of ways if that was their goal... this was not necessary.

I wonder some times if these idiots in their monkey suits are tying to incite a riot. If they keep up shit like this and people start getting killed... they'll probably get one. Perhaps that is the intention, stir up the crowd, create a riot by giving people something they won't stand still for. Then they can say the protesters are out of control, violent... rebels - I think we all know what comes next. I'm so damned angry right now. If it had been my Grandmother I wouldn't have just sat there, badge or no badge.

The people doing that are inhuman - they are pigs, not men. They have no honor.

That one is the one. It says it all.
