I wonder how much the Justice Department is behind the breaking up of OWS Nationwide
Edited on Wed Nov-16-11 08:08 AM by DainBramaged
just a thought.

And riot gear for peaceful protests? When are they going to break out the guns..............

Occupying is not enough. Maybe voting will be, but I think in my remaining lifetime, the 1% have won.

1. Correct on most counts - the Fed is obviously consulted behind the scenes
and no occupying isn't going to do much beyond raising awareness.

But I believe we can fight the 1%. After POTUS is re-elected and austerity is fully ushered in we will have more folks in the street and conditions will dictate that we fight back. It will have to involve labor because at least there is some organization there.

The 1% are very organized and disciplined - and that is our job as activists - to figure out how to harness the folks we have on our side to fight back.

It is not hopeless but it's going to take some work.

2. I'm the last person I thought would ever say this...
But I think America in general just needs to get a full, long, and hard dose of Republican policies in full force for them completely "get it".

The Democrats we continually elect and choose to lead the party have gone all in on Republican based, "conservative lite" policies and plans.

That's pushed the Republicans and the entire discourse in this country further to the right. The Democrats have been able to keep us all in line with the "the other side will be worse!!" line and scare tactics. Then in turn the Republicans can paint moderate right policies as being "socialist" and "liberal" while hard right policies are then deemed centrist. And within the sad political spectrum of our elected politicians, those hard right policies do actually represent the center of what is acceptable discourse.

I'm not some young kid trying to tear down the system. I'm in my 40's and spent 20 + years being a staunch advocate of working with the the 2 party system as a Democrat. But I've reached the end of my rope and am now convinced nothing is going to change as long as we keep electing the same democrats and allowing them to get away with adopting Republican discourse and policies.

3. If we got a full dose of republicans, we might never get the
country back without violence. Look at what they are doing to voting rights now...check out Michigan with their chap who goes and takes over cities and their votes don't count anymore.

4. We're also not going to get it back....
with incremental half measures and "me too" games being played by the Democrats.

I'll maybe believe any of it when I see Democrats stop talking about the need for austerity. Stop talking about deficit reduction. Stop saying "job creators". Stop talking about having too much regulation. Stop talking about the need for tax cuts. But it appears at this point that they've gon all in on that stuff so I won't hold my breath.

Look what happened in Ohio. They elected Republicans, got their policies, and then reacted strongly against them. Yeah it wasn't across the board victory and there's still road left to travel. But it pulled back the curtain and exposed what the Republicans really wanted. And with no violence.

Of course they also had Democrats who were willing to do what they needed and went rogue despite the political risks of doing so. That would never happen with national Democrats.

11. I don't believe that
you're using one state as an example. Do you honestly think if 300 million people got a massive wake-up call they wouldn't do a damned thing? They'd be beating down the doors of the voting halls.

I'm more inclined to be worried about the backroom double-dealing going on in this Dem admin against the OWS movement. THAT, if true, is a true evil we need to worry about.

10. we've been thinking the same thing
Especially in light of the continual and rapid capitulation from an administration that is using as it's meme -- *vote for us because we're not as evil* electioneering. Dems might not have thought up the evil -- but they give in to it as fast as a 2 dollar streetwalker.

I live in a red state. And the pukes use the Dems as the bad guys -- while the Dems fighting off the worst of it is used by those same pukes to cover their own asses. I personally think this red state needs a full-on dose of red state policies to wake them up.

So please don't try to claim my Iowa Democratic Senators are "the same" as the Republicans.

Same holds true nationally if you dig a little deeper.

50. When did I claim that about Iowa?
There are plenty of states where we have useful Democrats who stand up for Democratic principles.

At the federal leve, sorry but I have to disagree. I wouldn't and didn't say they were "the same". They are different. The Democrats are a center right party now and the Republicans are a far right extreme party. So yeah, there's a difference. The Dems are still the lesser of 2 evils.

And yeah, there is a decent enough contingent in the House but nowhere near what we need. But the Senate is a wasteland for actual liberal Democrats. And by and large the people we elect to lead the party are responsible for at the worst our rightward drift and at the very least for not fighting back against that drift.

There is no party riding in to the rescue. Just a few outnumbered politicians that still fight for the people and have no chance at gaining control without heavy support from the public.

65. I think emulatorloo is correct on the First Ammendment issue through out this thread.
The First Amendment provides you with freedom of speech.

The first amendment does not provide you with freedom from criticism regarding that speech. In fact, such criticisim is also protected under the first amendment.

And as emulatorloo points out a number of times ... the right wing tends to confuse this fact on a regular basis.

Palin confuses it ... Rush confuses it ... Dr Laura confused it ... the Fox News people get confused on this point all the time.

And within this thread, you've confused it too.

You are free to speak ... and others are free to criticize what you said.

67. Interesting that you think getting your thread kicked is a key goal.
Rather than honestly discussing the claims you make, and the criticism you receive.

Personally, I find it a bit lame, but I do agree that it is certainly not unusual on an anonymous discussion board. And of course, taking such an approach is a powerful use of your 1st amendment rights.

Seems to work for you, stick with it.

are at this moment trying to stifle the voices of dissent here......

Have a nice evening.....and start your own fucking thread if you're so concerned about my concern of possible involvement by the DOJ in stifiling OWS, and from your responses, I have a feeling you're on their side.....

69. Who said the government is infallable?
And wow ... what a well reasoned response.

You seem very threatened by my 1st amendment right to mock you in public, in this thread.

If I wanted to create my own thread I would. After all, I have that right.

And as for your concern (in the post above), about my (alleged) concern, about your concern regarding the DOJ ... you seem very confused.

I completely understand your concern about the DOJ ... what I questioned was your understanding of the 1st amendment.

And in our few exchanges here, its clear that you don't understand the 1st amendment.

You have a nice evening too. This was fun. Let's do it again some time.
