There is something about this country that's really fucked up...
Edited on Wed Nov-16-11 03:10 PM by MrScorpio
Oh sure, there are a LOT of things about this country that are really fucked.

But this is the one thing that's bothering me just this moment.

In looking at all the clowns in the Republican Clown Car, that there are living, breathing people who are walking around amongst us who actually think that any one of those fools are qualified to run the country.

Which points out two very disturbing conclusions to me:

One: That these people have made a conscious decision to support any one of these unqualified clowns as President of the United States, who is guaranteed to pretty much destroy America (and maybe the World) as we know it if they're elected or successful in stealing the White House, just as long as the Black Guy gets kicked out of office.

And Two: As a general principle, any unqualified clown can become President of the United States.

The second part, I think, is the reason why shit never gets done… Or gets done in the worst way possible. We have no idea what the fuck we're doing… And we don't know, because we're always giving unqualified clowns credit when no credit should ever be given.

What is it... are we cowards? Are we just plain dumb? Do we hate common sense and basic human decency just that badly?

All in all, and I really don't care WHO gets elected as long as we're so backwards a society, things are not going to get radically better here. It's only going to get either gradually or drastically worse.

It's plain as day that a Democratic sea change of epic proportions is needed. A change towards common sense, justice and basic human decency.

I'm hoping that OWS is the beginning of that sea change… It has to be the tipping point where people in general say to themselves that they've had enough of this shit and they're not going to take it anymore.

It's time to make things WORK for EVERYBODY… Simple as that.

The people who are opposing the Occupiers have played their hand and have shown, through their opposition, that OWS is actually affecting THEIR bottom line. This is the worst thing that they could do to keep their asses soaking in champagne in the long run.

If the 1 Percent is smart, they better start making contingency plans for a future world that's not as cozy for them. Sharing is a good beginning for this new world.

The 99 Percent is coming and the last thing the TOPPERs need is for the rest of everyone to be an angry, resentful mob who's out for their necks.

Eschew the Clowns!

1. You know, Mr. Scorpio, I'm beginning to wonder about things...
...it's like the plot of some sci-fi thriller -- dark, shadowy malevolent forces, people acting strangely. It's has elements of 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers', 'The X Files', and '1984' all rolled up into one.

Is it a virus or what? What exactly is in the koolade at those tea party rallies? I just don't get what is wrong with people.

2. The nitwits aren't confined to supporters of the Republican clown show
Just today I was lectured about my "idealism" (impliedly "unrealistic") in thinking that the United States should follow its own laws. It's a pernicious philosophy that flows directly from this Divine Right of God's Favorite Nation attitude.

4. You have my support and sympathy.
Now that this place is a fascist corporate owned third world nation, we are advised to be pragmatic and operate according to the laws of the jungle.

Enough to make one very very angry and very very sick.

11. My life long democratic Uncle told me recently that we must accept cuts to social security
and medicare along with raising taxes and that cutting the defense budget too fast was out of the question.

Easy for him. No ones talking of trimming his social security benefits or medicare. That's just for my generation. Lucky me.

7. I think OWS is changing the focus in this country
Check out this report from Coburn, a Republican:

http://coburn.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?a=Files.Serve&File_id=bb1c90bc-660c-477e-91e6-91c970fbee1f

Subsidies of the Rich and Famous

Americans are facing tough times. Millions are still out of work. Wages remain stagnant, while
health care costs, tuition, and other household cost continue to rise. Many homeowners owe
more for their houses than they are worth.
With families across the country struggling to make ends meet during these economically trying
times, many are left with few options so they are turning to the government – some very
reluctantly – for assistance. The government safety net has been cast far and wide, with almost
half of all American households now receiving some form of government assistance.1 But most
taxpayers will be asking why when they learn who is receiving what.
From tax write-offs for gambling losses, vacation homes, and luxury yachts to subsidies for their
ranches and estates, the government is subsidizing the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Multimillionaires
are even receiving government checks for not working. This welfare for the well-off
– costing billions of dollars a year – is being paid for with the taxes of the less fortunate, many
who are working two jobs just to make ends meet, and IOUs to be paid off by future
generations.
This is not an accidental loophole in the law. To the contrary, this reverse Robin Hood style of
wealth redistribution is an intentional effort to get all Americans bought into a system where
everyone appears to benefit.

(snip)

We should never demonize those who are successful. Nor should we pamper them with
unnecessary welfare to create an appearance everyone is benefiting from federal programs.
Even in these difficult times, the United States remains a land of opportunity and not everyone is
in need of government hand outs. The income of the wealthiest one percent of Americans has
risen dramatically over the last decade. Yet, the federal government lavishes these millionaires
with billions of dollars in giveaways and tax breaks.4
The government’s social safety net, which has long existed to catch those who are down and
help them get back up, is now being used as a hammock by some millionaires, some who are
paying less taxes than average middle class families. Comprehensive information on the full
range of government benefits enjoyed by millionaires has never been collected previously.5 This
report provides the first such compilation. What it reveals is sheer Washington stupidity with
government policies pampering the wealthy costing taxpayers billions of dollars every year.

(more at link)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The report even has an image of one of the Koch brothers with money raining on him. I think Coburn is angling to get rid of
subsidies for the wealthy instead of tax increases but personally I think we need to do both plus end the wars and the stupid expensive fruitless war on drugs. But in any event it's pretty strange to see this report from a republican. I sincerely doubt this would exist without OWS.

12. As if Coburn isn't part of the government he is lamenting.
If he's there why isn't he doing something about it? He helped create the problem.

8. Obama is doing such a good job representing 100%
of Americans, there is really no need for the GOP to go to the expense of running a serious candidate.

I don't mean that as a slam. Obama has really not given the r's much of a handle.

9. What you are talking about is a rise in consciousness that's happening right now
Suddenly it looks like the hundredth monkey woke up to the truth and now it's practically universal. The questions you are asking are right on, only now people are hearing you ask them.

Take heart. Remember when we used to cry about when will the people take to the streets? Well much to our astonishment they've taken to the streets¡

10. The GOP is a never ending black hole of stupid.
First we had Dan Quayle. Then George W. Bush. Then John McCain who really unleashed it with Sarah Palin. Then Mitt Romney, and Chris Christie, and Rick Perry, and now Herman Cain and Michelle Bachmann. You'd think the stupid is an isolated incident but this is a fucking never ending black hole for logic.

14. the way i see it
if any of these unqualified clowns actually wins, they will not really be the ones in charge, they will simply be the puppet, just like baby *ush. that's why the goopers don't care who is chosen. the system is broken.
