Man charged with attempted assassination of Obama
An Idaho man was charged Thursday with attempting to assassinate President Barack Obama during an incident last week in which shots were fired at the White House.

The federal court complaint against Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, 21, was made public Thursday afternoon during a court hearing in Pittsburgh.

Ortega-Hernandez was arrested Wednesday at a hotel in western Pennsylvania after the Secret Service alerted hotel staff that he might visit the area. At the hearing Thursday, a federal magistrate ordered that Ortega-Hernandez be transferred to Washington to face the new charges.

Last Friday night, witnesses heard shots being fired several blocks south of the White House, near the ellipse. An abandoned vehicle with an AK-47 inside was later found near Memorial Bridge. Police have been on the lookout for Ortega-Hernandez since soon after the incident. On Sunday, they obtained a local court warrant charging him with carrying a dangerous weapon.

President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama were traveling in California at the time of the shooting incident

4. To be fair: Obama was in Hawaii. They charged him with that or "a member of his staff".
I think the guy might just have issues.

5. Assasination Attempts on Obama
It's not like he was the only one. There was the smartass girl at U Texas as well. It just galls me the way these folks can make light of or directly attack Obama and no one is really going to jail. http://politic365.com/2011/11/17/white-kids-say-the-darndest-things-hard-knock-kid-life-in-ohio/

7. I agree - and have many problems with what he did - but attempted assassination is pushing it
especially when Obama wasn't even in the country. good luck prosecuting that - although in this post 9/11 police state - they just might get him for that. he's most likely mentally ill.

9. perhaps they asked him.
criminals sometimes admit their intent. many are not too bright nor knowledgeable of their rights. for all we know he left a notebook titled "my plan to kill the president" on the seat of his car. should only skilled assassins get charged with their intended crimes when caught? a bumbling fool can attempt murder too.
