Tears welling up- the kindness of people is amazing
I recently went a month without work and it took everything I had plus family loans to keep my apt. I started a new job but they haven't figured my tip out yet so I'm waiting for my first check with absolutely no cash, wondering how I am going to eat for the next few days. I posted this on FB and someone I met only once at OccupyAustin but has since become a good FB friend messaged me this:

Hey man, if you need it I can spot you a little cash till they figure out your situation at work. I don't have a whole lot to spare this week, but I can buy you a few meals.

I will probably have to take him up on it- as hard as it is for me to do (though I'm not sure why). This is why this movement will prevail. This is why I fight for everyone.

I don't know what to say- I'm at a totall loss for words. He is basically a stranger. I'm overwhelmed.

1. I'm so sorry. Someone in DU might be from your area. Maybe they can locate a job?
Someone? Anyone out there?

3. There are a lot of great folks out there.
Don't be dissuaded by the negative we see everyday.

I'm glad you've found the work, and a charitable friend.

5. Is there a feeding facility (used to be called soup kitchen) anywhere near you?
If you call them up or stop by and explain your deal, they'll probably give you a few meals in exchange for mopping the floor/setting tables/ what-have-you without any drama. Same deal with a food pantry--let them know you're in dire straits, that you need a few cans of soup and a loaf of bread and peanut butter to see you through a few days, no more. Then, when you're back on an even keel, you can return the favor.

Check the churches or Salvation Army--they're very good at targeted assistance. Best of luck.

7. Ask local churches where the nearest food bank is. A box of nonperishables
is just what you need.

11. Dial 211. Tell them what you need. This connects you to a
local organization made up of churches, donation centers, etc from your area (wherever you are in the USA) that pooled their resources into one central distributing group.
Its not a government group, it is local & they are wonderful about helping.
Good luck and best wishes with the new job my friend.

14. You'll get your chance to pay it forward
I've been on both sides of that equation. And it is an equation when done right. Both sides come out equal.
