'Casually Pepper Spraying Cop' Meme Takes Off

by Mark Memmott

When he walked down a line of seated Occupy protesters Friday at the University of California Davis and shot pepper spray directly at them, campus police Lt. John Pike likely never thought that video of the incident would go viral on the Web, that there would be outrage not only at the school but around the nation, or that "casually pepper spraying cop" would quickly become one of the year's top memes.

All those things did indeed happen.

And as Buzzfeed.com's Matt Stopera tells NPR, when he and others look back at the end of the year to judge which memes took off, "this is definitely going to be one of the bigger, more important memes."

2. It currently is what defines the cops at the OWS rallies.
So it basically has destroyed any goodwill built up by cops trying to be officers of the peace. Sadly they cannot stop all the PIGS that have become cops. Lt. Pike might as well say bye bye to law enforcement. THAT picture is worldwide now and will cost billions of dollars to the paymasters in damage control.

Paymasters...keep your lapdogs in check, otherwise they will cause problems to your bottomline.

I've seen tweets from Occupy Oakland that show the anti-police feeling went up there after the pepper spraying. And they themselves have already been tear gassed and shot with rubber bullets, but even so - that pepper spray video radicalized them against the police even more.

3. The casuality of the cop coupled with the lie they told about
feeling threatened and encircled just makes clear that the individuals and the system are utterly corrupt and inhuman. Look at him stroll. He sprays a young girl with supreme nonchalance. Then he claims he was afraid of her. Pathetic.

4. I hope this has the same effect that water canons and police dogs had
on the equal rights movement. That turned everything around and showed the average American how despicable the powers that be were.
