4. The Death Penalty does not work. My best friend was assistant warden

at a maximum security prison, used to believe in the DP but has since changed his opinion.

5. Not to stop future crimes that is the truth. But -

It sets some defaults in behavior to a dead end. Thus no more from the offender ever.

kind of answer. Trust me, there are some people that test this for me every day ie: GW Bush,Cheney, et al. but nope, not the answer.

8. The death penalty is a punishment, not a deterrent. The *fear* or *prospect*

of the death penalty is, or should be, the deterrent.

This is true of any of the penalties for infractions. There is the punishment, and the prospect of that punishment should be the deterrent.

Unfortunately, many will commit a crime regardless of that prospect, then they receive the sentence/punishment.

I think we should fry a few banksters just to see if it's a deterrent. If it works, it's a good start, if it doesn't, oh well.

15. See, I don't think the DP is a deterrent for the sociopaths who usually commit those kind of crimes

But for the soft flabby middle aged white guys who perpetrate the bulk of the serious financial crimes in the world, it just might be.
