Boy's dying wish helps others - and his mom
Boy's dying wish helps others - and his mom

CAMANO ISLAND, Wash. -- Just before he lost his fight with leukemia, 11-year-old Brenden Foster decided that his last wish was to make sure that everyone who needed a meal got one.

His selfless gesture touched home with families around the globe, who acted on his wish by organizing food drives.

Just three short years later, Brenden's mom, Wendy Foster, is one of the thousands of Puget Sound residents relying on food banks to get through the holidays. Wendy now utilizes a Camano Island food bank, where officials say clients have reached record numbers.

Wendy always thought food banks were for other families, until two months ago when she sacrificed paying bills for buying food.

Now that she's seen what food banks can mean to those in need, Wendy said she is especially proud of the wish her son made three years ago.

1. If a dying 11 yr old knows the importance....
.....of feeding the hungry, you would think every adult would, too. HAve you donated lately? Most food banks are running short of everything. Send money or donate food that YOU would eat. I'll even say PLEASE...with sugar on top !

2. Von's has a good thing going. They have large paper bags of
food that you pay $10 for and they donate it to a food bank (at least I hope they do). I picked up one yesterday and it was really heavy. I left it with the cashier because she said they would deliver them. They had quite a few waiting to be picked up.

3. Our Local Stop and Shop here in Connecticut does the same thing

The bags are filled by local food bank volunteers with items they are short of and come in 5, 10 and 25 dollar values. I bought a $25 dollar one, the cashier rang it up with my order and I put it in the handcart for the food bank myself. Oh, and they use reusable bags that the store donates to them.

I also donate heavily to this foodbank through payroll deduction all year long,
