Did Piers Morgan incriminate himself during his interview of Seth MacFarlane?
Edited on Mon Nov-28-11 06:18 AM by Syrinx
I watched the show, I think it was Friday night. An hour with Seth MacFarlane.

I'm pretty sure it was a rerun from earlier this year. And I think I saw it before.

But Morgan asked MacFarlane about a telephone call that he had received from Jon Stewart, who was furious at him because of some joke on "Family Guy."

Seth MacFarlane seemed dumbfounded. He asked Morgan how he knew about that call, and went on to say that he had never told anyone about it. MacFarlane said something along the lines of "you are a helluva journalist... how do you dig this stuff up?"

Did Piers Morgan implicate himself in the NewsCorp phone-hacking scandal?

I seem to recall that Morgan was recently called to testify about the matter before British parliament, but I haven't heard anything about what happened.

MORGAN: Didn't Jon Stewart call you in, rant at you for an hour?

MACFARLANE: Well, how do you know about that?

MORGAN: It's a great story. It was during the period of the strikes, right when the put a "Daily Show" out. And it was a live show, and he rings you for an hour.

MACFARLANE: You're the most -- you're the most deep-digging journalist in Hollywood. I've never told that story, because, you know --

MORGAN: Well, now we -- now we have the perfect platform, because there's a guy who loves dishing it out. You dish it out to him. Perfectly valid criticism. There is a live "Daily Show" in the middle of a strike. How did that happen?

You poked fun at him, and he rings you for an hour.

MACFARLANE: How did you find out about that?

MORGAN: Never mind how I know these things.

wondered the same thing. Seth was indeed really baffled about how *anyone* could have possibly known about that and said his publicist had advised him to never mention it so he at least told his publicist. Morgan then was aggressively trying to goad Seth into reviving the argument. Seth handled it really well but Morgan was just plain obnoxious about it.

I only watch the reruns on the weekend when MSNBC is airing "lockup" most of the time.

Morgan does have some interesting guests but he invariably reminds me that he was the first "apprentice" winner. I only know about that because he had Trump on earlier in the year and they discussed how they had initially met.

8. Quite obviously, there were two parties to the conversation.
Aside from the obvious fact that Macfarlane works FOR Fox, and thus any number of Fox employees could be aware of the call, whether Macfarlane ever mentioned it to anyone doesn't rule out Stewart having mentioned it to any number of people.

15. 20th Century Fox and Fox TV affiliates are not the same as FNC.

Also, while his show airs on Fox TV, it's not the same as him working "FOR" Fox. When shows and movies are made for a studio that studios employees are not privy to what goes on in the making of that show/movie. The show is produced by a smaller production company so there would hardly be any Fox employees knowing of the call as they are not in the production offices. They may not even be on the Fox lot while creating the show. There is a misconception on this site that everything Fox is the same as Fox News Channel and it's not.

Doesn't rule out that it just got out somehow, due to word of mouth, as you said. There's plenty of Hollywood gossip that gets out around town that way.

5. I thought the phone hacking scandal was about voicemail messages
The Murdoch people listened to important people's voicemail messages, not listen in to actual conversations.

Perhaps Piers had other methods, like Seth's big mouth. The feud was not uncommon knowledge in Hollywood.

9. I have several friends who work on Family Guy.
It wasn't a big secret to the employees on that show. If they knew about it, I'm sure a lot of other people did as well.

Seth has a rather large ego and likes to talk about himself. His feigned surprise on the show was more for the cameras than anything.

12. Not true: It has been discovered that they listened in on cell phone calls, and tapped phones
of even OTHER JOURNALISTS, not to mention members of parliament. I don't know where you heard it was just voice mail....that was the issue that finally blew them out of the water, but much more was learned after that.

14. It was about hacking voicemail
Which isnt all that hard to do. Hacking actual calls can be done but the equipment needed to do it is very expensive and tracked by the govt.

don't know that he is a key figure in the Newscorp scandal or what Newscorp even is.
