22. He was my favorite, also,
closely tied with John, of course, but I liked George's quiet and spiritual manner.

15. Thanks for this tribute.
I've always been a huge fan and still have a hard time believing he's no longer with us. He was the first musician to do a benefit concert (Bangladesh) which has become so popular now among artists.

RIP - gentle soul.

25. This tribute....
Edited on Wed Nov-30-11 09:55 AM by CanSocDem

...written by Andrew McCammon from Toronto and published in the G&M.

The passing of George Harrison offers a stark benchmark to current trends in the world. The Beatles, along with other popular heroes such as Rosa Parks, Rachel Carson, and Bertrand Russell, helped us to truly change the world by using dignity and conviction to shatter the narrow bonds of acceptable thinking and behaviour that went before them.

Before the sixties, normalcy in much of the Western world was dominated by anti-communism, racism, anti-Sementism, un-checked pollution, sexual taboos and dysfunctionalism, homophobia, a fear of outsiders, visions that rock and roll was devil music, and brush cuts.

Because of the Beatles, Martin Luther King and a Catholic U.S. President, society expanded the limits of acceptability, from hair, fashion and music to civil rights, sexual equality, questioning the proliferation of the bomb and that undeclared war in southeast Asia, and actually admitting the world's most populace state into the United Nations.

Today, as we face new challenges to international peace, global climate change, experimentation with trans-genetics, mass male sterility from new types of chemical pollution, and the prospect of global corporate monopolization withreduced civil liberties, I find myself deeply saddened by the passing of one small part of the recent past: not because George Harrison deserves undue credit, but just because he was different, and a voice for understanding and acceptance. We are going to need a lot of George Harrisons, and I shall miss the original.

Dig this!!!

I just watched a bunch of Beatles videos....look at them and then look at the young dudes of today. The Beatles seemed to be tuned in to their feminine side...the long hair, the cool clothes, tight pants.

It was a great time to be growing up. Now, not so much.
