WAUPACA � A rural Weyauwega man serving a 23-year prison sentence for killing a pedestrian while driving drunk won't spend any additional time behind bars for slaughtering several deer with a snowmobile.

Rory A. Kuenzi, 27, was sentenced Tuesday in Waupaca County Court to 11 years in prison for the animal cruelty crime, but he will serve the time while he completes his sentence for killing a pedestrian while driving drunk. He pleaded no contest to three counts of felony animal mistreatment in the January 2009 incident along a trail in the town of Lind.

Waupaca County Judge Philip Kirk said he used the deer deaths as "more evidence of a sociopathic personality" when he sentenced Kuenzi for the homicide. He said no other case in his career elicited more phone calls, letters and emails to his office.

Kirk read excerpts of several letters, including one that referred to Kuenzi, his brother, Robby Kuenzi, and Nicholas Hermes � who were each charged in connection with the deer deaths � as "obviously deranged."

Ironically, of all Wisconsin counties, Waupaca County had the most deer killed by hunters during the recent hunting season.
