My suggestion to the Obama Campaign.

Ask voters two questions;

Who do you think understands the situation of working class Americans better, President Obama or Governor Romney?

Who do you think always has been more on the side of working class Americans, President Obama or Governor Romney?

Few believe that they're working class, but many do identify as middle class; and the 1% has shat on the middle classes, too.

Whatever may make sense years from now, right now, I don't think it makes sense to divide up the 99%, all of whom should be in solidarity.

If you need to work in order to pay your living expenses and your kids' tuition, you are working class, which is different from blue collar or working poor or whatever other terms people invent.

You are not working class if you work only because you enjoy it or because the terms of your trust fund give your trustee latitude to require it of you, or because you want your very own private space program, or because you want to increase the $500 million you will leave your kids to an even greater amount (so you can be that much more likely to have screwed them up).


Once people who work for a living "get" it, we can always re-visit. Nothing is easier than coming up with new terms. Well, that and dividing people. Waking people up and uniting them is damn hard, though.

BTW, 20% of Americans consider themselves to be in the top 1% of Americans (in terms of wealth).

So much for the reality of what people consider themselves.
