Romney rides big donors to outpace Obama's fundraising in June, 106 to 71 million dollars

(Reuters) - U.S. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney raised $106 million in June, far surpassing President Barack Obama's $71 million haul in the record-setting money race leading to the November 6 election.

Romney's fundraising mark, announced by his campaign on Monday, is the best monthly total so far in the 2012 presidential campaign. It is another sign that Romney and his allies are on course to wash away any cash advantage that Obama, as an incumbent president, typically would enjoy in a bid for re-election.

Romney's effort is being fueled largely by big-money donors who have poured cash into his campaign, the Republican National Committee's election funds and independent "Super PACs," or political action committees, that support Republicans.

The former Massachusetts governor and the RNC have raised at least $389 million to date, less than the $512 million Obama has collected for his campaign and the Democratic National Committee, according to federal disclosures and Monday's announcements.

gotta love that the big money handlers are allowed to make his campaign absolutely flush with cash! I'd rather just see his campaign be flushed.

1. At some point, it has to be diminishing returns.

Frankly, in 2008, one of the few times i hesitated about Obama was when i found out he had been riding around to campaign in an uber luxury plane with the head rests covered in Presidential seal.

I sure did not begrudge him a comfortable plan, but the custom made head rest covers embroidered with the Presidential seal?

It's a little like the televangelists who beg you to send them even your last five dollars while they deny themselves no whim. (The presidential seal also made me hesitate on hubris grounds, but that is another issue.)

And sure, it may feel nice to have half a billion dollars to spend on TV ads, as opposed to having a pittance to spend, but I don't think having three quarters of a billion, as opposed to having half a billion, to spend on TV ads is going to make the difference.

In fact, it may go the other way.

I live in Boston, which sees a lot of ads because of our proximity to the swing state of New Hampshire. The conventions have not even been held and i feel as though one more political ad by anyone just may make me throw up.

Obama's biggest problem is to get people to focus on the promises he is making this time about the future, rather than on the past four years and the promises he made 2007-08.

And Romney's biggest problem is that he's Romney.

So, I think Obama will win

2. yeah, it's not really so much about the money, as they both have tons.
it's about getting people to trust him, who voted for him in '08 and feel upset. Thankfully, Romney behaves like a jack-ss quite often, so that oughta turn enough people off to secure a Democratic landslide hahaha.. I Hope! ;)
