The 555-page Marco Rubio 'oppo file': the cunningly crafted 'image' comes crashing down

Hat tip to Alex Leary at the Tampa Bay Times for the heads-up on the release of this report.

Many in Florida have been paying attention to Rubio, his mentor Jeb Bush, and their constant string of hard right enablers in the now 14-year-old GOP state legislative occupation. And we are damn glad to see this exhaustive report rocketing into the mainstream.

Keep up the investigations. There are many more slimy, putrid rocks to dig out in Florida.

American Bridge 21st Century, a Democratic super PAC, has posted a 555-page opposition research file on Sen. Marco Rubio as Mitt Romney nears a decision on his VP pick.

"Once Rubio is revealed to be neither the Tea Party champion or draw for Hispanic voters that Romney is counting on, what's left is an inexperienced freshman Senator who brings little to the ticket," the group says.

The report is mostly an exhaustive summary of Rubio's votes as a Florida House member along with his less than two years in the U.S. Senate. It doesn't appear to break any ground but rather shows the depth of which VP candidates are vetted by the opposition.

This is what we get when we just look away in apathy and cling to rigid adherence to party dogma.

Democratic congressional candidate Joe Garcia is using a most-unexpected narrator in a web ad bashing Republican Rep. David Rivera: The voice of Sen. Marco Rubio, a Rivera pal who has repeatedly said Rivera will have to answer questions about his finances that have made him a target of state and federal investigations. Rivera narrowly escaped state criminal charges stemming from his use of state House campaign funds and an investigation into a secret dog-track payment (background here). He faces a federal investigation as well.

A right-hand man for Rubio when he was in the House, Rivera is a close family friend of Rubio, who has stood by Rivera's side. He helped Rivera raise money but, in numerous interviews, has said Rivera will have to answer questions about his finances. Rivera, in turn, pushed out a public statement that said Garcia has his own "personal corruption issues."** Garcia's campaign said Rivera is simply lying about Garcia's alleged corruption. Indeed, there's no evidence that Garcia is under investigation, as Rivera claims, but there is ample proof that Rivera is.

Here is an excellent opportunity to vote out U. S. Rep. David Rivera, (R-Miami,FL), and replace him with Joe Garcia, a Democrat.

It is beyond time for the years of unchecked, hard right wing corruption in the state of Florida to come to an end.

Are you strapped in for the onslaught in Tampa next month? I plan to be as far away from there as possible.

For the first time, though, I'm beginning to see some light in this darkness.

Funny, how Rubio suddenly has a long face in the past day or so....; Jeb hotfoots it to Ohio today to ~~keep his name in the news~~ campaign for Romney (for the first time..), but not within 200 miles of Mitt, lol; Christie is the disgusting pick to kick off the GOP convention---- what a world.

A little voice in the back of my mind pipes up fairly frequently to say that Jeb is waiting to pounce as Mitt's candidacy goes down in flames before the nomination.

Stay sane, madflo. Glad to be in the trenches with you. :hi:

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., expressed worry this morning about broadcasting outlets that use taxpayer money to stay on the air.

But Rubio made his comments on NPR, a broadcasting outlet that uses taxpayer money to stay on the air.

NPR has been a source of criticism from congressional Republicans who view it as a liberal refuge that espouses its views courtesy of public funding. Although only 2 percent of NPR's funding comes from government grants, the loss of federal funding would undermine the ability of NPR stations to pay for NPR programming, NPR says.

A caller pointed out the irony of Rubio's position, saying, "He's spending an entire hour on the show today."

Rubio countered that a half-century ago, a station like NPR might have been necessary, but "today there is no shortage of options" for news and opinion.
"I have 300 stations on my satellite radio," Rubio boasted.

So Rehm asked him if he's contradicting himself by coming on her show if he doesn't believe her show should be funded by the public.
"Anytime we have an opportunity to go anywhere, we try to take that opportunity to communicate with people who are listening," Rubio said.

And Marco "The Opportunist" Rubio, once again, elbows his way to front and center.

NPR: Rubio Accuses Media Of Excess In Reporting Flaws In His Cuba Story, October 27, 2011

Some additional details from that story that I noticed:

----- Also described in this story are the previous claims by Rubio on his Senate website that his mother had returned to Cuba in 1961 'to be with his older siblings', and was held back from returning to the U. S. by the Cuban government for 9 months.

However, NPR reported this week that Rubio's mother had gone to Cuba in 1961 to care for her father, who had suffered an accident. On Rubio's website, he has since stated that his mother returned after only one month, with neither a mention of her taking care of her father on that visit nor of a '9-month' delay of her return to the U. S.

Rubio's story has morphed so many times, it is difficult to decipher the actual truth of it. But the fact remains that he made this story a centerpiece of his political biography as he campaigned for the U. S. Senate last year, and by doing so, he misled the voters of Florida and the nation, in his relentless drive for increasingly higher office. ------

My, my. No wonder Li'l Marco wants to defund NPR. The facts have that pesky 'liberal bias'.

And facts like these tend to put a damper on his political ambition.

We the people question the usefulness of Marco Rubio.
