nuff said. This should be prominent in Obama's campaign.

For those of us who don't follow Ayn Rand, though, remember: Expansion of Medicaid was supposed to make the mandate at least moderately acceptable to people who care if the poor die or face a penalty.

Thanks to Roberts and Democratic appointees, though, the mandate is going forward, but the way to make states expand Medicaid is not.

So, for those who cannot afford health insurance, the situation is now officially horrible. And that's before Congress either reaches a "Grand" Bargain, which will cut social programs, or goes off the cliff, which will also cut social programs.

I never believe the CBO.

I don't believe there is any such thing in the U.S. government anymore as a nonpartisan entity, if indeed there ever was.

However, if its findings seem useful, I say we publicize the hell out of them.

And, in reality, as Presidents from Teddy Roosevelt to Nixon to Obama have recognized, what passes for our health care system simply cannot survive as it is. That is why we now have a plan that originated with a Republican think tank--in reaction to Nixon's plan of a mandate for employers, not individuals.
