Presented With Letters, Ryan Admits Requesting Stimulus Cash

After repeated denials, Paul Ryan has admitted he requested stimulus cash even after sharply criticizing the program.

Ryan had denied doing so as recently as Wednesday, when he spoke to ABC’s Cincinnati affiliate, WCPO, in Ohio.

Two years ago, during an interview on WBZ’s NewsRadio he was asked by a caller if he “accepted any money” into his district. Ryan said he did not.

“I’m not one people who votes for something then writes to the government to ask them to send us money. I did not request any stimulus money,” the congressman answered.

<snip>

In 2009, Ryan wrote to Energy Secretary Steven Chu and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis asking for stimulus money to cover costs on two energy conservation projects in his home state of Wisconsin. In the letter, Ryan said the funds would help create jobs and reduce “energy consumption” in the state. At least one of the companies received the requested cash.

“After having these letters called to my attention I checked into them, and they were treated as constituent service requests in the same way matters involving Social Security or Veterans Affairs are handled,” Ryan said in a statement. “This is why I didn’t recall the letters earlier. But they should have been handled differently, and I take responsibility for that.

“Regardless, it’s clear that the Obama stimulus did nothing to stimulate the economy, and now the President is asking to do it all over again.”

"I don't recall." How many times did Gonzo say that during Congressional hearings? But how do you prosecute someone for perjury if their answer is "I don't recall." Very hard to prove someone remembered something.

Apparently Ryan had already "forgotten" writing the letters two years ago, only a year he wrote them.

I too, have done things contrary to my core personal beliefs. I still remember and I am still very ashamed of myself.

Who wants to vote for someone as VP who could forget violating his core political beliefs within a year?

1. The MSM won't run with this all the way to the election
as they would have if it had it been a Democratic Party candidate that had "misspoken".

This lie, alone, would sink a Democrat.

3. Yes, the media "moved on" the minute Ryan described it as "constituent services."

Thing is, if I were a career politician who had done for a constituent something that went against my core politican/economic beliefs, I would never have forgotten it immediately, as Ryan claims he did. (Apparently, in addition to what my Op says, he said in the very same year of the request that he had never requested stimulus funds.0

So, bottom line, we are still left with the lie, no matter why he requested the money. And then the lie about the lie.

The lie: I never requested stimulus money. The lie about the lie: I said that only because I had totally forgotten the request and never had an aide check. no matter how many times I got asked.

However, media seems to have no interest in the fact that yet another practitioner of the big lie is running for VP.

I see Republicans calling out the media all the time during their TV interviews. I wish Democrats would do more of that. They sure have more reason to do it.

Not sure if a lie alone would sink a Democrat today, even if media pursued it like the Enquirer and the D of J pursued John Edwards.

Many Democratic voters today seem very willing to treat politics like a ball game: you root for your home team, no matter what. ("So what if he took steroids and bet on the games. We won the game/pennant/series, didn't we? Besides, Bushco did it too." Move on.)

Then again, the more time that passes, the more Democratic voters seem to mimic Republican voters in many ways. What astounds me so much is that neither group seems to see the similarities. Or, maybe they do see, but just will not cop to it out loud.

:) Compliments of DFW:

You can't hide your Ryan lies
And your ads are thin disguise
I thought by now you'd realize
There ain't no way to hide your Ryan lies.
