MSNBC history: fire the TOP-RATINGS liberals
So why does anyone think that keeping Rachel's numbers up will keep her safe?

The more people who listen to her, the more danger she's in. Same with O'Donell, Ed, etc.

The liberal hosts who draw the biggest and most loyal audience are the ones who get fired.

1. Just like Donahue. It's about towing the reich wing corporate line,
ratings don't matter.

9. Just IMHO, but with no KO, the overall primetime ratings will now suck
And they will use those new crappy ratings to justify cancelling more shows.

I remember looking at a website about their ratings during the viewer boycott when he was suspended. They were down to like 800,000 that Monday ( pre-boycott, with him on the air, there were 1.1 mil viewers).

So with viewers knowing that he is gone for good, that 800,000 number will probably drop even more.

4. sorry guys
I don't flame other posters, but this logic is not very sound. The bottom line, the only line, that the networks care about is ratings because that sets advertising rates which turn into profits. I know quite a few people who have quit watching Keith in the last few months because they were turned off by his bombast. Personally, I am looking forward to O'Donnel and Rachel.

6. But his was the highest rated (read: highest viewership) show on the network. This makes no sense.

I'm not ready to buy the idea of a conspiracy, but this is not how you would do it if profits mattered. Right now I infer that he couldnt get along with his bosses as a result of a plain old personality conflict.

10. What is your source on his being the highest rated?
I never watched Olbermann (I rarely watch TV news of any sort, preferring to read it), so may not know as much as I should.

14. no, ratings aren't the only line. media are not only profit centers, but also a means of social
control.

plenty of past media have been demonstrated to have been explicitly that.

5. The reminder has been given...
refuse to follow the will of management, and your ratings numbers aren't worth shit.

Literally, the higher they pay, the more they have to lose for saying no to the company line.

11. If tweety is jealous of your success watch your back
He is an ass kissing boot licking sycophant and no fan of either Olbermann or Phil Donohue (who both had higher ratings than tweety and who are both gone).
