Bachmann: Founding fathers ‘worked tirelessly’ to end slavery

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/01/bachmann-founding-fathers-worked-tirelessly-slavery/

WASHINGTON – Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) said the United States was founded on racial and ethnic diversity and that the founding fathers were responsible for abolishing slavery.

Speaking at an event sponsored by Iowans For Tax Relief, Bachmann hailed the "different cultures, different backgrounds, different traditions" of the early European settlers in America, adding that the "color of their skin" or "language" or "economic status" didn't preclude them from seeking happiness.

"Once you got here, we were all the same," she said. "Isn't that remarkable? It is absolutely remarkable."

"But we also know that the very founders that wrote those documents worked tirelessly until slavery was no more in the United States," Bachmann added, claiming "men like John Quincy Adams... would not rest until slavery was extinguished in the country."

1. Say WHAT?
Really has her US history down pat, doesn't she? Geez...and this person is going to give a SOTU rebuttal? Really sad, but most sad are the people who buy into her craziness and don't know any better...

Peace and blessings.

Lincoln was president? Working tirelessly? Yikes. These people are stupid.

6. John Q and Lincoln, I believe, served in congress together
during Adams' last years on earth. Adams was an ardent abolitionist.

14. She's not. She knows it's a lie. They are rewriting history.
See, if America was always against slavery and inequality, then the Republicans aren't really racists who opposed equality in the last half century. There was no inequality, except amongst some shady characters that everyone hated and fought against.

Ergo, the Republicans weren't the bad guys, and Obama is nothing special, and the Democrats are the real racists for punishing white people with the Civil Rights Act and so forth.

They know what they are doing.

7. Same party who read the US Constitution but left out the parts about slaves being three-fifths
of a person.

It's not just stupidity. It's thought control. "Those who control the past control the future. Those who control the present control the past."

24. Agreed!
I'd love to see Bachman, Palin, and a few others go away for a while, maybe take courses in American History, ethics, the Constitution, and a few other things.

13. That's some selective history recall she's got there.
J. Q. and his dad (who WAS a founding father) were both against slavery, but no founding fathers were still alive when slavery was abolished.

I doubt Ms. Bachmann has ever read a history book, or any book, for that matter.

19. If Crazy-Eyes Michele Bachmann had been born instead during the early 1700s
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind, that if she was as relatively wealthy as she is now, and had the exact same holier-than-thou fundamentalist/dominionist Christian conservative ideology and sociopathic attitude towards the mostly "ne'er-do-wells" that comprise the entitlement-receiving, tax-sucking poor, as well as the disadvantaged, disabled, aged, and long-term unemployed in our country, she most certainly would have no qualms whatsoever about her husband, herself, and family owning slaves.

and far too dangerous to be left to them (yet their followers are even more ignorant morans). We Are Fucked. The GOP will not rest until America is a destroyed. I can't believe we have such stupid people in charge of everything! Didn't at one time people actually have to have some form of intelligence or common sense to run the country!? Maybe that is just something I've hoped was true.

32. Do you realize JUST how little people actually know of history?
Even history they LIVED through?

Para exampla: I was talking with my grandmother a few months back about something or another, and the topic of World War II came up. I made an offhanded comment about Hitler, and she was just giving me the blank nodding look that means 'Im just humoring you or I dont know what the hell you're talking about'. After a moment of retracing my words in my mind, I stopped and said...Grandma, you DO know who Adolf Hitler was, right?

Not a fucking clue. Mind you, she GREW UP during World War II and her father SERVED in it. It's not Alzheimer's or anything like that -- she just doesn't care that she's ignorant to the point of being a bumpkin.

You only get one guess what straight-ticket she votes, and if your guess ends with 'ocrat'...you're wrong. :(
