"I had other obligations."
"I had other obligations."

-- House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), quoted by TPM, when asked if he watched Rep. Michele Bachmann's (R-MN) response to the State of the Union.

4. I should say so
Do you know how seriously all that State of the Union folderol cut into John's drinking time last night? In the past, he could just slip out to "go to the bathroom" or "take a smoke break," but when you're sitting right behind the guy that's talking, you not only have to sit there the whole time, you actually have to look halfway engaged.

John did appear on the verge of inevitable tears, I think when the president was saying it was time to end subsidies for big oil.

12. I know, what time do the bars close in DC?
This was something Boehner hadn't thought about...how he HAD to sit there, with no flask (visible) or smoke break. He always seems on the verge of tears, but even worse when Obama goes on and On and ON about whatEVER, delaying Mr. B's happy hours.

11. Sounds like what Cheney said to dodge the Vietnam-era draft...
So now Republicans are so pampered and privileged they even need to dodge the ordeal of just sitting through each other's drivel?

13. And by "other obligations"
he means five gin and tonics followed by a bottle of red wine and a good cry.
