An Indonesian pop star who rocked the predominantly Muslim nation after several homemade sex tapes found their way on to the internet has been sentenced to three and a half years in jail.
The trial of Nazril "Ariel" Irham, lead singer of Peterpan, has made headlines and dominated talk on social networking sites for more than three months.
Fans insist he did nothing wrong, making the tapes in private. But Islamic hardliners said his actions had contributed to the country's moral decline.
Irham, 29, who said the videos were stolen and posted online without his knowledge, was the first celebrity to be found guilty of violating the country's strict anti-pornography law that came into effect in 2008.

I bet that American social conservatives are reading this and sneering: "Hey! Why can't that slut Paris Hilton go to jail for releasing a sex tape?" Although the US Supreme Court ruled that obscenity is not free speech in
Miller v. California (1973), the Internet pretty much rendered that obsolete.
Oh, keep in mind that the Indonesian
has been seen as an attempt to codify Sharia law.
