1. NO.
And the last fucking thing these people want is American charity.

3. That's one perspective, but if you think it through, Mubarak
is engaging in financial warfare against the protesters. I'd tend to think you'd be supporting a cause rather than offering charity-- especially since our government spend/spent billions supporting the Mubarak regime. People have to eat and have to feed their children and work opportunities appear to be kind of limited in Egypt right now.

11. Fine. Donate money.
Any operation using American funds will be so welcome.

Lotta orgs collected cash for the struggling Iranians in #iranelection. Fraudulent, pretty much every one of 'em.

At least, that was the warning on #Jan25 from @OxfordGirl.

And, while I will continue to be concerned for the Egyptians fighting for the right to choose their own leadership, I am very well aware that no one advocating for America or peace with Israel is going to win an honest election in that country. So let them find their feet without us. THEY WOULD PREFER IT.

China has been busy in Egypt for a while, IIRC, and aid from them won't have the stench of ours. It will be gov't aid rather than individual donations since #Egypt is blacked out in China, but it will still help and still, in Egyptian eyes, be cleaner money than ours.

2. These people will do this on their own.
Aquart is correct. Not everything is a charity or a PR opportunity.

5. Mubarak won't be doing this on his own.
He has ample financial resources to drag this out and prolong the suffering of the protesters. (See the Saudi King's statement of support.)

4. Seems to me the best thing we can do is avoid interference...

and a propaganda campaign that hurts them across the globe. To that end and after hearing that Faux News had John Bolton on and Beck and others suggesting this to be a communist or jihadist plot, pressing to bolster Mubarak and suggesting we should support Israel in bombing Iran now, perhaps you could donate to a group that counters outlets like Faux news--perhaps MediaMatters.

But I agree with the other posters. Our support should be from afar...

8. Don't worry, our government has spent the last 30 years
interfering by donating money to Mubarak on our behalf.

9. Obviously... thus the need to avoid further interference.

10. It hardly seems fair
to use that as an excuse not to help those trying to take back their government from the guy that we funded.

6. Some folks just don't seem to fully understand what is going on in Egypt....
this isn't a disaster drive.

7. Some folks don't seem to understand what is going on in the world.
Unions have always understood the importance of finding ways to provide for the families of striking workers. It's easy to dismiss practical needs when your belly is full.
