4. He needs to be clearer about it by saying explicitly for Mubarak to go.

12. No. He needs to keep the Egyptian military at bay until Mubarak is forced out by
his own people. They started this revolution and they should finish it. If it takes a while longer for it to genuinely succeed, so be it.

There should be no hint of "you protested so much that the American told Mubarak to leave". The resolution should belong solely to the Egyptian people - "we protested so much that Mubarak had no choice but to leave no matter what any foreigner wanted".

If Egyptians blame Obama now that's fine. The more they blame him, the more they will own the success of the revolution.

13. Thank you...
The days of cowboy boots and sabre rattling are OVER! This is what diplomacy looks like. It always has looked this way... too many have forgotten.

5. I do not hear that Obama is on her side.
I hear State Dept. saying they support the existing government and encourging existing gov. to make changes, while the Egyptian people are saying they will not accept current government, change or no.

As seen here:

15. I guess you missed the morning news...
Looks like he's sent an Ambassador to show Mubarek to the door... after the appropriate diplomacy, of course.

I get that people don't recognize diplomacy anymore, but the call for saber rattling is pretty weird.

9. They do not want to hear that. They want one or more scapegoats and people to blame
The US and who currently leads it is always a good candidate, even when its not fair.

10. They want Mubarak gone while this administration is urging Mubarak to initiate more reforms
They do not want Mubarak. It is very simple.

Not sure if this administration is getting the message.

11. Yes, but if Obama took what I think is the moral high ground
and said, let the people decide. It would be heard around the world and would do the world such good. I don't think he will do it. But I'm prepared to wake up this afternoon (I'm a daysleeper - nightshifter) and be surprised. President Obama, surprise me. Knock my socks off. Sec. Clinton, knock my socks off.

14. He already has said it...
He's made a public statement to Mubarek telling him to listen to the people. Hillary too. She even said it was wrong to cut off the InterTube access. That was step one. Mubarek was told to keep to what he said he was going to do, which was clearly lip service, and now the message is stronger.

Snip...

Obama sent retired ambassador Frank Wisner to Cairo to talk with Mubarak. Wisner, who served as U.S. ambassador to Egypt for presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, is known to have a close relationship with Mubarak and top Egyptian government officials.

Sources said Wisner was sent by Obama to deliver a message about how to best prepare for an "orderly transition" from the current government to one that respects democracy, economic and political reforms, and human rights.

The White House would not comment on whether Wisner has being tasked with gingerly showing Mubarak the door.

This is called diplomacy. Sabre rattling is wrong.

24. Let's cut the President some slack here
this is a new reality for America...

If the events currently unfolding in the Middle East were to have occurred a mere 10 years ago. the result would have been identical to all other movements similar to this one. The US neoliberal establishment, working hand in hand with their partners, present day Republicans, would have selected a leader, formulated a plan to install that leader, rigged the election, and then patted itself on the back for having brought democracy to yet another nation. No more. The days of secret back room deals are fast closing. We see it on the world stage and, more importantly for us, we will see it here at home.

Transparency has become the freedom bell for common people. Wikileaks, Twitter and all the other technology innovations that people assimilate and employ with great efficiency are our weapons in the new reality.

29. Problem is....
...if they don't get change the blame will be placed squarely at the feet of the US heads of state.

We have given them billions of dollars to do our bidding. Mubarak is an employee of our empire.

They have been forced into a corner because of US policy. Our policy must radically change or there will be no change and no peace. It is our responsibility as to how many freedom seeking people will die tonight and tomorrow.
