Want to cut down on Federal spending? Number of Millionaires in Congress: 261
Edited on Tue Feb-01-11 12:49 PM by justiceischeap
I say for all those 261 millionaires in Congress that they take a pay cut. The BASE pay for members is $174k per year. If they cut their pay to the median US average, $52,029, that would save the US almost 32 million a year. Take away their tax-payer provided health care too; I mean a lot of US employed don't have health insurance either, so why should they? I don't know what that averages out to but instead of cutting SS or other social programs that do some good, put their money where their mouths are.

I've yet to see one rich member of congress declare that he or she will forgo their pay to help the economy.

1. Go one step further: Dissolve Congress.
Just have each of the Fortune 500 companies send a representative to the new, improved "Corpgress."

They're making the decisions about legislation, anyway. We could save a ton of money eliminating the "middleman."

2. How about we through those 261 millionaires out of congress
and replace them with people who have had to live on a budget? Allot of millionaires have lost connection with how much money is really worth.

3. Cutting their salary would affect poorer Congressmen much more than richer ones

11. They probably wouldn't care that much
For example, Florida's new Governor Rick Scott is a billionaire, and is not taking a salary.
