American Troops in Middle of Egyptian Unrest
Source: Yahoo

American troops have been stationed in Egypt for many years, performing a number of different missions. The protests, which are taking place throughout that nation and in its capital, Cairo, may affect both these mission and the troops involved. Little public information is available.

US Naval Medical Unit No.3 (NAMRU-3)

This research facility has been in continuous operation in Cairo since 1946, other than 1967-1973 when relations between the United States and Egypt were strained. The unit is tasked with performing research and investigating disease outbreaks in Africa, the Middle East and Southwest Asia. About 40 U.S. military personnel work here along with more than 100 Egyptians.

See! See! We're even occupying Egypt! Oh! When will someone think of the CHILDREN!?! EOS (end of sarcasm)

There are several different reports that I've seen about events in the Sinai. I have no idea if they are rumours or straight reports.

1. Hamas is moving out of the Gaza Strip on orders from the Muslim Brotherhood to open another front against the government, and Egyptian troops are moving to drive them back behind the security wall.

2. Bedouins are taking territory. (I don't understand that one. It's not as though anyone would let them keep it.)

3. Unlike the fairly peaceful demonstrations in the main cities of Egypt-on-the-Nile, the demonstrations in the cities of the Sinai are violent, armed by weapons captured from the police stations.
