I was like 3 when he resigned, so I don't remember it. But first, didn't he get all indignant and say he wasn't going anywhere only to resign a few days later?

This situation sorta reminds me of that. Trying to save face.

2. I was an adult, living and working in the
Washington, DC area. At National Airport, to be precise.

It wasn't especially obvious to me where I worked, but apparently for the three weeks or so leading up to his resignation, work in the federal government came to a virtual halt.

The night of his resignation, I was at work. When he came on, it seems as if every single person at the airport found a TV to watch. All of us agents went into our back room to watch, leaving a door open so that if any passengers showed up, we could notice and go out to do what needed to be done. I understand that planes delayed pushing back from the gates to listen to the speech.

Even now, every time I watch it, my heart is in my throat for fear that when he says, I am not a quitter, he will go on to say, Therefore, I am not resigning. Every time it is a relief and a joy that he's going to leave.

3. More than once. And don't forget "Peace with honor."
And demonizing protesters. And by the way, fuck Kissinger.

5. I was 22
Nixon's reason for resigning was classic understatement: I have lost my political base in Congress. That's what he called it when impeachment and removal became a certainty.

I don't know what legal mechanism there is for removing a crooked president in Egypt. Last time somebody wanted to remove the president of Egypt, they shot him and threw grenades his way.

7. I remember coming home from playing at a friends house and saying the president had just resigned
(we'd had the TV on while playing with our dolls in the living room)

my older brother or sister said "He did not!" and nobody believed me, until the evening news came on.
