In the weeks since the mass shooting we've learned a lot about Jared Loughner but what's most telling is what investigators say they found on his computer and that includes research on the death penalty, solitary confinement, political assassins even Loughner's mistrust of the government.
James W. Clarke authored the book Defining Danger: American Assassins and the New Domestic Terrorists and has studied and written about more than 20 political assassins and domestic terrorists, he said, "If the political environment didn't have any impact on Loughner he will be the first such person in American history that didn't."

Clarke says Loughner is depressed, angry and suicidal and believes politics may have influenced his mental state, "This is the way they check out so to speak with their name on the lips of every broadcaster and on the front page of every newspaper."
Rodgers believes Loughner's mental state coupled with politics can be connected, "I think there's definitely a chance that the heated rhetoric you know certainly helped create a fertilized field for a mind like this to go into overdrive."
