David Shuster launching new investigative web site.
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/plum-line/2011/02/david_shuster_launching_new_in.html

Shuster says he's getting close to locking down funding for the project from a range of investors, and adds that he has been spending time over at Media Matters observing their operation. He's also spent time at Politico and Yahoo.com, in an effort to see how successful Web sites have managed to build up their operations.

Shuster envisions his new site as a kind of cross between high-profile sites like Huffington Post or Politico and lower-profile but successful investigative ventures like Pro Publica. He plans to use his profile as a former TV anchor who was highly visible in the political world in order to draw publicity and attention to long-term investigative projects that would otherwise have a tougher time breaking through all the clutter and noise.

"Look at Huffington Post or National Journal or Politico -- they all do a very good job of covering what happened today," Shuster says. "But you don't have an organization that has 15 reporters going out and spending two weeks on a story -- and also has someone with TV name recognition who can be the face of the organization and go out and promote its scoops."

Shuster notes that Pro Publica is a "great model," but is less political than his planned site, which will focus on breaking high-impact investigative stories about campaigns. By combining this mission with his TV profile, Shuster hopes to create "an organization that can break though and dominate the political discourse."

This sounds pretty good, any thoughts?

1. GREAT! I"ll be sure to follow you on your site and I'm sure
many others will too. David will be good at too. He was always more of an investigative journalist on MSNBC than mny of the others were. Keep us up to date on what you're doing and we'll be with you.

9. I know a currently unemployed journalist who would be a great
addition to his staff.
Definitely be an asset and would come with a huge following.
Couldn't happen soon enough.

11. Great!!! But still needs to be something that reaches the elderly, poor, etc.... The goal
is also to have something that will educate the masses by reaching them everywhere.

14. I wish he would go back to MSNBC, strong liberals seem to be thin on the ground over there.
with saying that, this too sounds like a good idea, i hope it works out.
