Skyscraper climber gets community service

(02-01) 17:10 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- The skyscraper-scaler known as SpiderDan won't be climbing the walls in jail after all.

Dan Goodwin, whose ascent of the Millennium Tower in the Financial District on Labor Day drew crowds of gawkers and squads of police to arrest him, was sentenced Tuesday to 100 hours of community service and two years of probation, during which he is not to climb any more buildings in San Francisco.

He was also fined $260 and ordered to pay restitution - to be determined by the Fire and Police departments - for the time and resources the city took to apprehend Goodwin during his three-hour climb.
