1. No, I don't think so. And President Obama hasn't allowed them to interview him yet
Edited on Tue Feb-01-11 09:40 PM by Turborama
Even though they have interviewed several members of his administration.

Oh, on edit, and they've been banned from having a bureau in Iraq since they filmed what was going on in Fallujah. I'm not sure who's in charge of that decision now but they're still keeping Bushco's ban in place.

2. That's actually understandable -- why give the Repubs ammo to accuse him being
a Muslim terrorist? And no matter what is said, they wouldn't let go of the fact that AJ is the "voice of terrorists".

3. He went on Al Arabiya just after he was elected.
Edited on Tue Feb-01-11 10:18 PM by Turborama
See here for links to the interview: http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-US&q=Al+Arabiya+obama+interview&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=

This meme about them being the "voice of terrorists" was started by Bushco during the Iraq war and unfortunately many American's from both the left and right still believe it: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=6848728

Al Jazeera are working hard to dispel those myths: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x315131

And anyone who cares about real journalism that's not led by a corporatist agenda should too.

Oh, and K&R & :hi:

6. I know I bought into it at the time, but then I didn't know what I've since learned
about Islam.

Again, I think that the networks citing AJE as a credible news source (repeatedly!) will go a long way in helping people see that the charges were unfounded This is the first opportunity I've had to actually give them a real look/listen -- impressive! It became my GoTo 'channel'! The guy I heard on Coast to Coast, ME/Egypt expert, said he'd been glued to it for the past several days and I thought "I hear you, brother!"

The key is "anyone who cares about real journalism" - I fear the Republicans and their doe-eyed devotees don't. But the rest of us will benefit greatly from a news source that doesn't have a corporate agenda.

Thanks for the links! :hi:

5. They don't have any gay prostitute correspondents

So they probably can't get credentials.

7. Took me a while to get the reference - another little conflict of interest that was
swept under the Bush WH rug.
