Giffords' office helps Tucson woman evacuate Egypt
Posted: Feb 2, 2011 4:22 PM
KVOA.com - Tucson, Arizona

TUCSON - The office of U.S. Rep Gabrielle Giffords helped evacuate a Tucson woman from Egypt as Cairo entered the sixth day of city-wide protests.

Andrea Richardson, 24, was beginning her first day of field work at a famed Egyptian museum Monday when her parents contacted Giffords' office for assistance.

Richardson left her apartment and was staying at a Cairo hotel out of safety concerns, and had asked the U.S. Embassy for assistance in leaving - but with 50,000 Americans in Egypt and about 2,600 seeking evacuation, the wait for a flight would have been substantial.

"It was a crisis situation half way around the world," said Andrea's mother, Alice Richardson of Tucson. "I was stunned by the impact Congresswoman Giffords' office was able to have. It was outstanding, timely and compassionate. We felt scooped up by warm hands."

4. both
state dept's job to help US cits get out (and from what I have seen they are doing a hell of a job)

congress people's job to help constituents

I have mixed feelings about special treatment for no real reason.

... We've lost the news, it seems, on Giffords' progress, probably much to their delight...

But, it's still quiet and so I continue to wonder how she's progressing.
