First hand report from the streets of Egypt by an Egyptian-American socialist.
I've met Ahmed and he's got excellent judgement. I look forward to reading more of his reports and I hope he stays safe. It's interesting that, according to his report, the protests in Alexandria, which also number in the 7 digits protester-wise, is more hardcore than Cairo and there are no pro-Mubarak "counter-protests". These "counter-protests" seem to have that astro-turf, Tea Party, pre-fab fakeness to them. They appear to be mostly a PR presence to obscure the nature of the protests and the general will of the Egyptian people. (The ol' look there's a million people in the streets and 1000 paid protesters from the dictator, let's let "both sides" have their say :eyes:)

Interesting stuff.

1. K&R
Very interesting read.

And the author makes a great point:

I think the decision has been made that the stakes are too high to have the dictator Ben Ali go in Tunisia, and then have Mubarak go within a week or two. That would change the face and shape of everything in the Middle East, and it threatens American power in a way that's unacceptable...

6. The "pro government," often police who stop in hotels to change into civvies
seem to be the ones shooting and throwing Molotov cocktails.

Mubarak has lost any claim he ever had because of this stuff. Now that's obvious to the fence sitters and people on the sidelines.
