Ronald Reagan Lives On -- in Schools, Streets and a Warship Bearing His Name
As founder of the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project, Norquist dreams of the day when all 3,130 U.S. counties, parishes, boroughs and independent municipalities have something, anything -- a school, a street, a library -- named for Ronald Reagan.

One cannot accuse Reagan admirers of failing to think big. "Do you really need two Dakotas?" Norquist asked impishly. "You could have one Dakota and one state of Reagan. We're negotiating with Puerto Rico. They change their name in return for statehood."

<snip>

"Every school, road, or courthouse that we name after Ronald Reagan becomes a teaching moment. It will open the door for parents to explain to young children who Ronald Reagan was and to provide a catalyst for learning to those who were too young to remember him in their early years," proclaims the Legacy Project website.

OH THE HUMANITY!!! They want to rename everything after him and put him on Mt. Rushmore and replace FDR on the dime? OMG. Maybe we should rename public toilets after him. Instead of the John they can be Ron's. I need to go to the Ron.

2. I loved Nancy's "just say no" shit to end drug addiction,
Ronny liked it so much, that he adapted it to his new program to end homelessness and called it "just buy a house" >_<

3. I used to say that the USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76)
Would be the only aircraft carrier to respond; "I have no idea", when the President asks; "Where are the carriers?"

4. Give me a break
This crap about St. Ronnie being a great president is for the birds. He screwed the unions, he screwed the poor, he screwed the minorities. Good manufacturing jobs disappeared while he was president to be replaced by low-paying service jobs. Poverty began creeping up during his presidency. He had a major foreign policy scandal with Iran/contra and he was suffering from Alzheimers too boot during part of his term. He could only hold a coherent conversation if it was about old movies or while holding an index card with everything written out for him. They give him credit because of the collapse of Communism, but that had more to do with internal Soviet policies/politics than Reagan.

The only people who did well during the Reagan years were the rich and powerful and we are still paying for those excesses with tax and budget policies. Those same people are still the ones trying to promote this "Great Ronald Reagan" crap. For the homeless, the people suffering from aids, the jobless, minorities, people who had to work 2 or 3 jobs just to make ends meet, the working poor and those who were cut off from basic benefits like food stamps or Medicaid it wasn't "Morning in America."

5. Fuck Reagan. Fuck him in the ear with a big rubber dick.
He did nothing but damage to this country, and no one with any kind of brain would ever claim otherwise. His supporters should just kill themselves so they can go join him.

6. Anyone under the age of say 30 barely knows much about him.
He worked well as a caricature of the 80's. I was a kid when he was president, being born in '75. I saw him as a kindly, doddering old guy. Of course, now I see him as he really was and all the damage he did. But he really is not worshiped or looked upon as very important by anyone younger then me. Lots of my younger friends scratch their heads when I ask them if they think Reagan was a great President.

The Mississippi River is now the Mississippi Reagan."

Kudos to whomever gets the reference.

Scary thing is naming the river after him makes sense!!!

Ol' Man River

Ol' man river,
Dat ol' man river
He mus'know sumpin'
But don't say nuthin',
He jes'keeps rollin'
He keeps on rollin' along.

He don' plant taters/tators,
He don't plant cotton,
An' dem dat plants'em
is soon forgotten,
But ol'man river,
He jes keeps rollin'along.

You an'me, we sweat an' strain,
Body all achin' an' racket wid pain,
Tote dat barge!
Lif' dat bale!
Git a little drunk
An' you land in jail.

Ah gits weary
An' sick of tryin'
Ah'm tired of livin'
An' skeered of dyin',
But ol' man river,
He jes'keeps rolling' along.

Colored folks work while de white folks play,
Pullin' dose boats from de dawn to sunset,
Gittin' no rest till de judgement day.
or musical part]

Don't look up
An' don't look down,
You don' dast make
De white boss frown.
Bend your knees
An'bow your head,
An' pull date rope
Until you' dead.)

Let me go 'way from the Mississippi,
Let me go 'way from de white man boss;
Show me dat stream called de river Jordan,
Dat's de ol' stream dat I long to cross.

O' man river,
Dat ol' man river,
He mus'know sumpin'
But don't say nuthin'
He jes' keeps rollin'
He keeps on rollin' along.

Long ol' river forever keeps rollin' on...

He don' plant tater,
He don' plant cotton,
An' dem dat plants 'em
Is soon forgotten,
but ol' man river,
He jes' keeps rollin' along.

Long ol' river keeps hearing dat song.
You an' me, we sweat an' strain,
Body all achin an' racked wid pain.
Tote dat barge!
Lif' dat bale!
Git a little drunk
An' you land in jail.

Ah, gits weary
An' sick of tryin'
Ah'm tired of livin'

19. No he didn't, but you're right that it's from the Simpsons.
It was the episode in which Sideshow Bob receives the Republican nomination to run against Mayor Quimby. The Republican honchos in Springfield are Dr. Hibbert, Mr. Burns, Dracula, and a radio personality eerily resembling Limbaugh named Birch Barlow.

Sorry Grover - he's STILL DEAD.

And you know what? Hardly anybody under 30 really remembers him, and every fewer give a shit about his "legacy" of Free-Dumb.

10. Excellent litmus test here in DC regarding Reagan:
Listen to what people call DCA airport. If they say "National," there's generally no problem. If they say, "Reagan," get suspicious. If they actually correct you when you say "National," run.

12. I'm an 8-times-a-year guy and I call it "National".
Reagan was a doddering fool who shouldn't have a public toilet named after him.

17. Same here. And same with most DC natives.
I'm not a native (been here 11 years, though), but my wife and her family are. Soon after I moved here, I referenced the airport as "Reagan" (with a little eye roll) and was very quickly corrected. My wife's mom basically said, "No one here calls it that...it's National."

And there are plenty, PLENTY of people that attempt to correct such a thing. Most are douchey Hill staffer types with a hard-on for Raygun:

Them: "What airport are you flying out of?"
Me: "I got lucky and found a good price out of National."
Them: "Yeah, REAGAN is the best airport around."
Me: "Ugh." Turn and exit.

Asses.

13. I'd consider naming my local land fill after RayGun.

But that would be as far as I would go.

"Saint Runny of RayGun Memorial Dump" ... kind of has a nice ring to it. :eyes:
